I have several pit bulls and I give them all raw hide strips...

I have several pit bulls and I give them all raw hide strips and bones for their teeth but for some reason two of my females Sadie and Calli are afraid of them it sounds crazy I know but when I try to give them one they run with there tails tucked as fast and as far as they can get.  does anyone know why. also my friend said raw hides are bad for dogs is this true
