Hey, about cartilage piercings... See, I'm going on a trip...

Hey, about cartilage piercings...
See, I'm going on a trip in a month or so, and my aunt, who is a doctor (well certified) is going to be piercing my ears (my mom doesn't seem to trust anyone else). I REALLY want to get my first and second lobe, and my upper cartilage piercing (helix), and my mom even accepts, even though she's a little iffy on the helix piercing... my question is:
1. Does the cartilage piercing hurt??
2. Which would you recommend, needle or gun?
