My cat is on 10mg of Prednisone a day for airborne allergies(mold and ragweed).  Some days his allergies seem really bad and the medicine doesn't always seem to help.  I also worry about long time use.  If there something else I can use?

Thank you, Judy Hollingsworth

Steroids are harmful when taken long term. When you want to stop, reduce the dosage slowly over a period of weeks. Suddenly stopping prednisolone can cause adrenal collasp.

My kitten was put on prednisone because she has been experiencing diarrhea.  After trying a few other solutions and testing her for parasites, which was negative, they put her on 5 mg tablet  of prednisone, but it says 1/2 pill for 5 days.  Anyway, it wasn't helping after the second day which is really the third day as the doctor gave her a shot of prednisone first and then the following two days we gave the 1/2 tablet.  When we called in to say nothing had changed, a nurse said to stop the medication.  We did.  We have since talked again to the doctor and he said there was miscommunication and we shouldn't have just stopped.  So with two days of no medicine on the third day we started again.  He recommends for 3 to 4 days and then every other day for a week.  Have we caused any potential damage by stopping abruptly for the two days?

Thank you,
Cindy
