I'm not mechanically inclined, so I need some advice on a problem I'm having with my 2000 Dodge Dakota.  Last year I moved from Southern California to Arkansas.  In June, when the temp and humidity began to rise, my Dakota started missing around 45 or 50 mph.  In addition, the truck would do the same thing when the cruise control was on (regardless of the speed).  By November, my truck (automatic) was not shifting out of first gear until about 30 mph.  I took it into the dealership and was told the selanoid had shorted out.  That fixed the problem.  However, here it is June again with the temp and humidity on the rise and the exact same thing that happened last June is happening again!  My question is this:  Could it be that since this truck has California emissions equipment on it, that the heat and humidity of the South is having an impact on the performance?  If not, what could be the problem and what causes a selanoid to short out?
Thanks!
