94 Jeep Grand Cher A/C won't charge.

Last year the A/C worked fine after I added 1 can of freon. I didn't put any stop leak in it and this year it won't take a charge. The A/C compressor won't kick in.

I vacuumed the system for 30 min before trying to charge the system. I put a can of freon on it and started the engine and A/C but it won't take a can. I have a gage that says the pressure is over 60 so I stopped trying to fill it. An A/C mechanic said something about a high pressure switch but obviously he won't say anything more till he gets me in his shop. I know this A/C stuff isn't rocket science and I'm a disabled Vet living off what they give me so I really can't afford to pay for labor especially when I should be able to do it myself with a little help. Can someone please suggest how to trouble shoo this problem. Thanks, Matthew
