We have a 17-month old Aussie, who when exerting himself chasing a frisbee in 75-80 degree weather, nearly collapses from what appears to be heat exhaustion. After I cool him down with ice chips & wipe his paws with alcohol, he recovers in 30 minutes. The vet has run an EKG (normal) & a full blood work-up & is now leaning towards myasthenia gravis or Addison's disease, even though all his blood work is normal too. It has only happened twice in the past month; otherwise he's perfectly healthy & active. Do we proceed with this testing? We've only had the dog 6 weeks & he previously spent 75% of his time in a large kennel. Could he merely be out of shape, or does his endurance need to be built up because of previous inactivity before he came to live with us? Or could the above mentioned diseases be a possibility?
