The "Game Genie" was an adapter available several years ago that you would plug your game cartridge into, and then plug it into your game system. They were made for several of the different consoles available back in the late 80's early 90's. I haven't heard of them for quite a few years now. A "Game Genie" adapter would allow you to access (in an easy to use manner) the games "cheat" codes, originally designed for testing by the games' programmers, allowing them to walk through the game without hindrance to find any bugs or flaws. You would have to look in the adapters' manual for the codes to certain games. I haven't looked, but I imagine you could find Game Genie codes on the Internet if you looked hard enough.

When dealing with an Emulator you have to make sure the rom can handle cheat codes, most of the roms are just the base games and do not allow codes even though it looks likes the original game you cannot add a game genie..some roms do allow cheat codes but those are built into the rom, it depends on what game you are playing in other words.

You are very wrong about "Cheat codes" in the game genie. NO game genie codes are BUILT IN to the ROM or cartridge. a ROM was not programmed for the computer, it is directly extracted from the cartridge. a GameGenie code is simply extracting and placing hexadecimal code into the game. yes, the game testers could use this to test the game, but not a "game geine" where as they would simply edit the values of hex by thier computers. no game "doesnt support cheats" as ANY rom can have game genie codes. I would know this because i am a programmer, and have used game genie on every existing rom in the SNES game industry, as well as change them by programming. And for your question about ROMs and emulators, get all the emulators from zophar.net. if your looking for NES roms, the entire list of them is at www.theoldcomputer.com, fully downloadable not popups or hinderances. SNES roms are trickier, but try Limewire, or do a google search. plenty of sites offer them.

The ZSNES is basically the best emulator for the SNES out there. I highly recommend it.

A good site for ROMs is DGEmu.com. They have pretty much anything you want, but they go buy a points system where however many MBs the ROM takes up is how much it costs.
