There is a loud clanking sound coming from my engine. It sounds like it is in the top end. I took the valve cover off today to check if it was a broken spring, and check the rocker arms for unusual wear but everything looked fine. Nothing unusual that I could see. I also took off the oil pan thinking that it might be something with the oil pump, but everything there looked fine too. I think that the next step is going to be taking off the head to check the valves and their seats, but I don't think that that is the problem because compression is good (145-155 lbs) on all cylinders.

Any ideas?
