Our local no-kill shelter three-year-old Chis up for adoption, one female, one male.  They both supposedly had been with someone who was not allowed to keep the dogs in his apartment.  They arrived at the shelter local in early November.  Both are very snarly and snappy, especially the male.  The female allows a few people who work at the shelter to take her out of her cage, but not everyone.  She would not let me take her out.  But, when someone else took her out and put her in a dog run, she let me pick her up after a few minutes and became very sweet.  The same thing happened on a second visit -- she would not let me take her out, but she did let me pet her and pick her up after a few minutes in a dog run.  She is truly adorable, when not snarling and snapping.  I am trying to figure out if some decent training is likely to take care of the problem, or if the she is unlikely to make a reliably friendly pet.  Any advice on how to tell and whether to give her a try?
