i have a 6 month old miniature long haired dachsund, maggie....

i have a 6 month old miniature long haired dachsund, maggie.  i want to breed her but am not sure how old she has to be.  i have heard that you can bread some dogs at 6 months but i am not sure if that qualifies for the dachsund, being such a small breed.  my question is how old does she have to be and when will i know she is in heat?
