I have just been asked to create a makesysb tape, but I have never done it and don't know how.  Can anyone give me clear instructions on creating the tape from an RS6000 machine?  Also, does the system need to be shut down during this process, or can it be up and in use during the creation?

try the man page for mksysb - often *pronounced* "makesysb"

try to use this command after login by root

smit mksysb

system run during this command

login or su to root and then give the command mksysb (tape should be there in the tape drive)
