I had the same issues and have taken  him to several vets thinking that there was something wrong. After many tests and exrays, etc. it turns out that it is somewhat normal in this breed to have blood in their stool. I changed his food to Nutro Puppy Organic and that has helped, although he is a bit gassy. But...I may just have to get used to that! After changing his food he has less blood and I now notice it only once or twice a month.

Hi -- I'm not a vet. doctor or medically trained professional of any sort.  I bred dachshunds, owned and cared for various breeds of dogs, and also bred and raised Arabian horses.  In my experience, gastroenteritis may sometimes be caused by allergies.  My German Shepherd was allergic to corn in dry or wet feed.  Lamb and rice feeds were usually well tolerated by my dogs with sensitive stomachs but I would urge you to consult your vet (again) first.  Hope this helps.

Did you ever find out what was wrong?  Did your dog recover?

My 8 yr female Boston has the same problem ever since an emergency spaying about 10 months ago.  She took one round of antibotics and it cleared up for about a month.  I changed dog food and now she is doing it again.
My vet looked worried and thought it was cancer - but after a very thorough exam - and lymph nodes were okay - said to bring her back for steriods.

In fact, our male Boston out of the same litter - has had very brief episodes.  I think he has bleed twice in 8 years.  But our female is much worse.  Anybody had any experience with this?
