My 1994 Golf 1.4L has started "hiccuping".  It stalled waiting at lights last week and then lost a bit of power 5 minutes along the road travelling about 30mph, and the oil light came on.  I slowed and it eventually cut out.  It started again after 2-3 attempts. It has done this again twice this week, but if it hiccups and the oil light comes on, I just power through and its fine. It seems to be just as the car is warming up ( I only use it to travel 3 miles to and from work each day), and have been advised it could be dampness in the distributer which in turn effects the electrics and could make it stutter.  We have now sprayed the distributer oil to dispel dampness.  We have had the car for nearly 3 years and it has actually stuttered very occasionally on and off during this time, but as it is becoming much more frequent I'm concerned.  However, it may be playing up more now as it is just taken out on such short journeys compared to previous commuting.  Any ideas on what may be wrong?
