I have to debate this topic. I think that kids should be allowed to get a tattoo if they do the correct research. Look at a number or tattoo parlor and find the best one(cleanest, legal, not bad part of own ect..) If a teenager wants to get a tattoo then let them its their body and they should have control of their body. But i don't think Children that are under lets say 14 should get them because they might get a sports team or a power ranger or something stupid like that. I see people all the time with tattoos and i have to admit i judge them every body does. You see a man on a Harley with a huge tattoo of a bloody skull you don't think that guy looks like a nice guy. So if you are wanting a tattoo think of the consequences.

I'm a tattoo artist and I tattooed a 14 year old one time with both parents consent.About, a year later she came back to me saying it stretched.I told her it would because she was still growing.The tattoo didn't look all that bad, it still looked the same.3 months later ir stretched alot.Now, she is trying to get it removed.I will do a tattoo to anyone 14 or older with a parent consent (unless your over 18).It's your body and I respect it.But, think about what you want.If you are under 18 I will "NOT" put and volgar or violence on you.It can be big or small."NO" nudity either.So, if you want a tattoo and your under 18 really think about it before you get it.I'm not offending anybody.Just, think about the consequences!

I am almost 17.My mom, sister(14) and i are part Hawaiian and all our Hawaiian family, as part of our heritage, have this certain Hawaiian jewelry with our names on it, but my mom had mentioned just her, me and my sister getting a little tiny Hawaiian plumera or hibiscus flower on our foot together. Its nothing crazy at all and it its a family deal. We live in Washington state and cannot get a tattoo EVEN with parental permission. so we wondering where is the closest place to eastern Washington, that we COULD go to to get this cute little tattoo. Here are a few words from me, a tattoo artist. There are many reasons for young people to not get tattoos. Lets start with the obvious...in most states, if you are under 18 you are still a minor, and minors are minors because they have not matured enough to make those decisions for themselves. It is a law that is there to protect you from un-scroupulous "artists" who take advantage of your lack of knowledge on the subject. Furthermore, any "studio" that will tattoo minors are probably breaking about twenty laws that levy heavy fines for doing that kind of thing. Here in Texas it's a 10,000 dollar fine and permanent revocation of your studio liscense. Let's think about that for a second, If a "studio" is willing to make 50 or 100 bucks off of doing an illegal tattoo for you, and they get busted, they get a huge fine right? 100 is only 1% of 10,000. See where Im going with this? Besides, if they will break a law that carries a huge fine just to make a hundred bucks then imagine how many other laws they are probably braking in the realm of sterilization, contamination, ect. So, directly from the mouth of a tattoo artist, WAIT. Wait untill you are legally old enough and wait untill you have done the proper research.

I really do beleive people under the age of 18 should be able to get a tattoo but with Parental consult. Sometimes if teens go and get tattoo's when they are under 18 and without telling their parents they get something stupid and regret it when they grow up and have to endure the pain and cost of getting it removed.. I think that if you think you are ready and you are mature enough to get one then your parents will know that also.. You may have to do a little extra work for it but you will get one.. And even if your parents won't let you get a tattoo right now if it sounds so good right now and you really want it bad enough it is probably worth the wait until you are 18.

I am 16 i have 2 tattoos and have been pierced over 34 times and still have 20. I Ive in Canada and believe that anyone over 16 who is nearly positive that they are done growing should be allowed to get a tattoo without consent. If i were a parent i would rather have my 16 yr old having a tattoo than driving a car, its much safer in the proper environment. I don't agree with the 18 yr or else parental consent, its not your parents' body its yours. I'm not saying that you should have a bunch of gross gruesome stuff on u permanently but i don't see the harm in a few decorations. People at the age of 14 or at the age of 15 (how old i was when i got my first) should consider whether they will still like the chosen art. I love being under the needle but its nothing to get stupid about.

I think that as a teen wanting to get a tattoo is a big decision to make. Yes, I do think that you should consider all aspects of the situation, what it will be? Why should you get this one over that one? Is it stupid? Does it have a meaning to "ME" behind it? Can I live with this forever? I have wanted a tattoo for lets say 2 years now, and just decided on two that I could actually get, and am still not sure about them... just be wise if you find a place that will do it under 18 that it is clean and they have a book with pictures of work they have done, make sure they wont make your good tattoo a horrible tattoo. I am 16 and believe that it will take until you until you are bout 17-18 to even decide on a tattoo that is worth putting on your body, your temple... keep these thing in mind, don't hurt yourself physically by going through pain, and don't hurt yourself mentally by getting a tattoo that your going to want to hide the rest of your life because you can't afford laser removal. A lot to think about and consider.

Well, Im researching this topic tattooing. I think that tattooing is a very serious thing and you really should have to think about your consequences before you go and do. I myself am thinking about getting a tattoo, but after the research in this project im not too sure i'll be doing that, at least anytime soon. Tattoos can stretch as you get older and may even cause many defects in your everyday life. Think about if you get a tattoo of a character that you are really into at that stage in your life but as your age progresses you would not want the same thing, what do you do then, removing a tattoo is very costly and may i mention more painful. Well, the decision is yours, Have Fun !!

People under 18 are able to get piercings because when you take it out, there may be a small scar, but very tiny. Any tattoo will show more. I agree that people should be able to get a tattoo at a younger age if they are well informed and have researched it enough, but who's to judge that? For every one person that got something that really means something 50 would get something they would later regret. I am not the same person I was at 15. I'm not even the same person I was at 20, but some things have never changed. I think 18 is good just because at least then you are legally recognized in the US as an adult. At that point it's your own fault if you get something you don't like. As far as piercing "private places", that should be 18 and up too. If you go to a place that will pierce genitals on minors, get out. Some people will take advantage of others as much as they can. I don't know of any states at this point that allow tattooing on anyone under 18 even with parental consent. California for certain doesn't.

If a TEENAGER wants a tattoo you have to respect them, but as a teenager myself i must say don't get a tattoo that has a superficial meaning. I want a tattoo on my shoulder blade of three hearts. These were on my grandmother's GRAVE! So i'm getting a memorial tattoo. don't get some stupid tattoo like a guy/girls name (unless they are dead) because you might end up hating this person. I don't want to wait till I'm 18 to get my tats but i don't really have a choice because I want to get them done right because its more satisfying. I know, i pierced my own lip instead of waiting, and now i kinda wish i didn't... i got grounded for 5 months!! And it got all infected, so go to a good place that is clean this means that they probably won't do it if your under age but its more satisfying. They should just change the law to letting people 16+ get tats. For people under 15, if your getting a tat you are too young!!!

I think that kids need to educate themselves on the tattoo process, and then they will understand WHY it's not ok for someone under the age of 18 (oregon) to get a tattoo. Most people do not know anything about tattoos, they just decide to get one and go to the closest cheapest place they can find. This is the wrong way to go about it. Tattoo artists need to follow the law, and many protocols, in order to keep thier liscence to tattoo. This ensures that they know how to safely give someone a quality tattoo. The people that DON'T follow the laws and will tattoo someone at any age just because the kid wants to express themselves, are called "scratchers", and you don't want a tat by one of them! If you let someone like that do a tat on you, the BEST thing that will happen is you will end up with a stupid looking crappy tattoo, and the worst thing is you could end up with AIDS, Hepatitis, or something else. My sister went to a "scratcher" (and he had a legal tattoo parlor, btw) and she luckily avoided getting a disease, however she is now very embarrassed by her crappy tattoo. The scratcher ALSO had her take her shirt and bra off, and wrap a towel around her, which he kept trying to take off while tattooing her. She was also drunk (and high) at the time. Educate yourself. If you don't know these things, you should NOT get a tattoo; 1. What an autoclave is and what it's used for. 2. what spore testing is and whether they should be negative or positive. 3. what cross-contamination is and how to avoid it. 4. why your artist needs to use disposable needles, ink cups, and bag the cord on the tat gun. 5. why the laws state that (in most states) you need to be 18 to get a tattoo. There are good reasons for this. 6. Tattoos ARE permanent. There's no such thing as a "temporary tattoo", a "1 year tattoo" or "5 year tattoo", etc. 7. Tattoos can SOMETIMES be removed, but you will almost always end up with either scarring, or a blurry ink spot that looks somewhat like a bruise. 8. Trying to remove a tattoo hurts WAY worse than getting one, and is extremely expensive and takes many appointments. you won't be able to afford it unless your parents have a lot of money. 9. How deep should the needle go. 10. What kind of ink is best/safest. Did you know that the FDA does not approve tattoo ink and sometimes it can contain harmful metals? 11. Tattoos can make it more difficult to diagnose certain conditions such as skin cancer before it's too late. 12. If you have many tattoos, the ink collects in your lymph nodes, making it difficult to tell if cancer has spread to them, and to the rest of your body. 13. Some tattoo inks are not safe and can cause auto-immune disorders. 14. why tattoo artists should not tattoo anyone who is drunk, high or low. 15. Why you need to eat a meal 30 minutes to an hour before getting a tattoo or a piercing. 16. proper aftercare. 17. How you grow and how your skin will change or stretch. 18. the healing process. and so much more! Going to an unethical person who will tattoo anyone at any age guarantees you will have a problem. If you're lucky, it will just be a crappy tattoo. If you can't understand the "big words" in this statement, or still disagree with my opinion or can't understand it, then you shoud definately NOT get a tattoo. I am not trying to be mean, just educate people so they will not make a mistake they will regret later in life. If you want to express yourself, this can also be done by experimenting with different hairstyles, clothing, etc. Tattoos are not the only way to show who you are and what you believe in. If you still want one, fine, but wait until you are legal age, and put a LOT of thought into it, make sure it's something you will still like when you are an adult. peace

in california you have to be 18. it doesnt matter if u got parent consent, u have to be 18. in navada its 16, but i dont know anywhere that its 14. i know, becuase my 16 year old sister got one a while ago! and YYAAYY for her, because she got her toung peirced yesterday :D oh, and i do think people under 18 should be able to get tattoos WITH PARENT CONSECT! it may be the childs body, but until there 18 that body is THE PARENTS PROBLEM! THE PARENT IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THAT KID WHILE HES A MINOR, SO REALLY, ITS THE PARENTS CHOICE, NOT THE KIDS!!! and i would also like to say that my mom is willing to let me get a tattoo, and shes not a bad parent like all u think. She is a manager at HP, she saves us colege funds, she watches our health, and she is actually really strict. just because she is okay with things like tattoos and peircings does not make ur an irresponcible parent!

you should be able to get a tattoo if youre under 18 if you would like. It's your body and if you screw it up it's your fault. If youre so stupid to wrtie " i love.." then it's youre fault no one elses.

I"m writing an essay about tatoos and think ppl under 18 shouldn't get tattoos because they r still growing, and the inc can't be good for u anyway... At least they should think about it and think about how they will look when they are 60....

U SHOULD BE ABLE TO GET A TAT IF UR UNDER 18 I THINK 16 WOULD BE A GOOD AGE UR ABLE TO DRIVE AT THAT AGE SO WHY NOT BE ABLE TO GET A TAT...PLUS IT IS A WAY TO EXPRESS YOUR SELF AND IM ALL FOR THAT!!!

If you want a tattoo you should be able to get one. it's your body so why not? If you can get peirceins why not a tattoo people should give a real reason why not! I can understand if it covered an arm but if its just a little logo or something, you really should be allowed.

i think that tattoos should be aloud to younger people around the age of 16. when you are young your skin is way smaller than what is going to become. it will need to stretch out if you get a tattoo it will end up stretching and un-recognizable. but i think 18 might be a little too over protective. 16 just sounds perfect for it.

kids under the age of 18 should consult a parent or gaurdin that way if something happens like you get a diease as long as your parents will be notifed.

i need help now!!!!!!!!! tomorrow i have the chance of a lifetime yo get a tatoo!!!! im 14 and my mothers either high or insane..but along with a belly piercing she has oked it...but i dont kno the laws..can u still get it even with parental permission??? in california?? does anybody know a link? I got a tattoo when I was 13 My parents let me I also got my belly pirced when I was 12 IF anyone wants to get a tattoo I think you should go for it. BYE!!!

Dont try to relate getting peirced with getting tattooed. A peircing heals up and will go away. A tattoo is permanant. 4 months ago i got a tattoo on my back, the first one i ever got. This is when i turned eighteen. It covers almost my entire right side of my back. I loook at it now and say.. "Why the hell did i do that?" Sure at the time it seemed like a good idea but now i have to live with Treebeard on my back... forever. Actually now that im on the topic! My girl is 17 and wants to get a tat, so if there are any tattooists in NH that are willing to ink her up, give me some info on where your at :)

I'm 15 and I'm thinking of getting a tattoo but it isn't gonna say i love... not everybody in the world will get a tattoo and it most likely wont say i love... its up to people what they want to do with their bodies. i thought about a tattoo for the past year now and i no the consequences

Kids don't know what they want, why should we allow a 14 year old to get a permanent tattoo? Think about it, at an age like that we all want to be one thing and then eventually we grow out of it, so of course they may want a tattoo at the time, but further along in life, they may regret it.

I am doing a paper on if kids should be able to get tattoos or not. I think they should because it is their body for one and if they have the right tattooist they can get it done. I want a tattoo and I just did research about it. You can get diseases from it such as HIV,Hepatitis B,and have allergic reactions. The good things about tattoos are you can express your self and show your own individuality. Tip:Before getting a tattoo you should eat jello cause it will stop from bleeding.

I think under 18 with REAL parental consent should be fine. i am almost 17 and my family is all getting a tattoo together including my mother. problem is, its hard to even get tattooed under the age of 18, consent or not

I think we should be able to get tattoos with parent consent when we are 16. Because I'm 16 and my mom might let me.. But for real it's my choice and my body.. Why does it matter to her what I do?

i want a tattoo really bad. i want a cross that has a banner an says JOSHUA 1:9 my dad said that he thinks people would think that i am in a cult because of the cross! i don't think it would and neither does some of my peeps. what do u think?
