Some states you cant get tattoos under 18.  I live in Oregon and you have to be 18 no matter what.

i think people under the age of 18 should be allowed to get tattoos with a parents consent because if you can get pierceings done in *private places* than why cant we get tattoos? that makes no sense!

I THINK TEENS UNDER 18 SHOULDNT BE ABLE TO GET TATTOOS BECAUSE THEY MIGHT WRITE I LOVE... AND LATER IN LIFE THERE GOING TO REGRET GETTING IT AND THAT WAS BECAUSE THEY WERE TO YOUNG TO GET IT. I'M 14 AND THINK TATTOOS ARE VERY DANGERS PEOPLE DONT KNOW HOW LUCKY THEY ARE.

you should be able to get a tattoo if youre under 18 if you would like.  It's your body and if you screw it up it's your fault.  If youre so stupid to wrtie " i love.." then it's youre fault no one elses.

I"m writing an essay about tatoos and think ppl under 18 shouldn't get tattoos because they r still growing, and the inc can't be good for u anyway...
At least they should think about it and think about how they will look when they are 60....

You should be able to get a tattoo at any age you want because tattoos are a way of expression. They express who you are and your personality!!!

I have to debate this topic. I think that kids should be allowed to get a tattoo if they do the correct research. Look at a number or tattoo parlor and find the best one(cleanest, legal, not bad part of own ect..) If a teenager wants to get a tattoo then let them its their body and they should have control of their body. But i don't think Children that are under lets say 14 should get them because they might get a sports team or a power ranger or something stupid like that. I see people all the time with tattoos and i have to admit i judge them every body does. You see a man on a Harley with a huge tattoo of a bloody skull you don't think that guy looks like a nice guy. So if you are wanting a tattoo think of the consequences.

If you want a tattoo you should be able to get one. it's your body so why not?
If you can get peirceins why not a tattoo
people should give a real reason why not!
I can understand if it covered an arm but if its just a little logo or something, you really should be allowed.

I'm a tattoo artist and I tattooed a 14 year old one time with both parents consent.About, a year later she came back to me saying it  stretched.I told her it would because she was still growing.The tattoo didn't look all that bad, it still looked the same.3 months later ir stretched alot.Now, she is trying to get it removed.I will do a tattoo to anyone 14 or older with a parent consent (unless your over 18).It's your body and I respect it.But, think about what you want.If you are under 18 I will "NOT" put and volgar or violence on you.It can be big or small."NO" nudity either.So, if you want a tattoo and your under 18 really think about it before you get it.I'm not offending anybody.Just, think about the consequences!

i think that tattoos should be aloud to younger people around the age of 16. when you are young your skin is way smaller than what is going to become. it will need to stretch out if you get a tattoo it will end up stretching and un-recognizable. but i think 18 might be a little too over protective. 16 just sounds perfect for it.

kids under the age of 18 should consult a parent or gaurdin that way if something happens like you get a diease as long as your parents will be notifed.

I got a tattoo when I was 13 My parents let me I also got my belly pirced when I was 12 IF anyone wants to get a tattoo I think you should go for it. BYE!!!

Dont try to relate getting peirced with getting tattooed. A peircing heals up and will go away. A tattoo is permanant. 4 months ago i got a tattoo on my back, the first one i ever got. This is when i turned eighteen. It covers almost my entire right side of my back. I loook at it now and say.. "Why the hell did i do that?" Sure at the time it seemed like a good idea but now i have to live with Treebeard on my back... forever.

Actually now that im on the topic! My girl is 17 and wants to get a tat, so if there are any tattooists in NH that are willing to ink her up, give me some info on where your at :)

I'm 15 and I'm thinking of getting a tattoo but it isn't gonna say i love... not everybody in the world will get a tattoo and it most likely wont say i love... its up to people what they want to do with their bodies.  i thought about a tattoo for the past year now and i no the consequences

I am almost 17.My mom, sister(14) and i are part Hawaiian and all our Hawaiian family, as part of our heritage, have this certain Hawaiian jewelry with our names on it, but my mom had mentioned just her, me and my sister getting a little tiny Hawaiian plumera or hibiscus flower on our foot together. Its nothing crazy at all and it its a family deal. We live in Washington state and cannot get a tattoo EVEN with parental permission. so we wondering where is the closest place to eastern Washington, that we COULD go to to get this cute little tattoo. Kids don't know what they want, why should we allow a 14 year old to get a permanent tattoo?  Think about it, at an age like that we all want to be one thing and then eventually we grow out of it, so of course they may want a tattoo at the time, but further along in life, they may regret it.

I am doing a paper on if kids should be able to get tattoos or not. I think they should because it is their body for one and if they have the right tattooist they can get it done. I want a tattoo and I just did research about it. You can get diseases from it such as HIV,Hepatitis B,and have allergic reactions. The good things about tattoos are you can express your self and show your own individuality.
Tip:Before getting a tattoo you should eat jello cause it will stop from bleeding.

I think under 18 with REAL parental consent should be fine. i am almost 17 and my family is all getting a tattoo together including my mother. problem is, its hard to even get tattooed under the age of 18, consent or not

I think we should be able to get tattoos with parent consent when we are 16.  Because I'm 16 and my mom might let me.. But for real it's my choice and my body.. Why does it matter to her what I do?

Here are a few words from me, a tattoo artist. There are many reasons for young people to not get tattoos. Lets start with the obvious...in most states, if you are under 18 you are still a minor, and minors are minors because they have not matured enough to make those decisions for themselves. It is a law that is there to protect you from un-scroupulous "artists" who take advantage of your lack of knowledge on the subject. Furthermore, any "studio" that will tattoo minors are probably breaking about twenty laws that levy heavy fines for doing that kind of thing. Here in Texas it's a 10,000 dollar fine and permanent revocation of your studio liscense. Let's think about that for a second, If a "studio" is willing to make 50 or 100 bucks off of doing an illegal tattoo for you, and they get busted, they get a huge fine right? 100 is only 1% of 10,000. See where Im going with this? Besides, if they will break a law that carries a huge fine just to make a hundred bucks then imagine how many other laws they are probably braking in the realm of sterilization, contamination, ect. So, directly from the mouth of a tattoo artist, WAIT. Wait untill you are legally old enough and wait untill you have done the proper research.

im 16, n have 2 tattoos already,
i havent gone o.t.t or anything, but 1's pretty big, but they r in places i can cover up.
I think any1 who wants 1, at a reasonable age shud b able to get 1.

I think you should get a tatoo at any age because its your body and if you can get a piercing at any age then wht not a tattoo?
You know. I'm writting an article on this topic and I think it sucks that you can't get a tatoo under 16 or 18!

I think you should be able to get a tattoo with the permission of your parents. i got my belly button pierced at age 13 and then last year i got my nose done at age 15. i now want a tattoo. i will be 16 in June but i want to get it during spring break so damn it somewhere better do it for me!!! if anybody knows of anywhere in Indiana that will you can email me at hhollisterbabe08@aol.com

you people are all saying the same things ahhh. i am 17 i will be 18 in 1 month and i wanted one when i was younger but i am glad i am waiting until im 18 because i would have gotten a stupid tattoo of like a butterfly or something that every girl has. Now that i have had to think about it i am going to get a tattoo that actually means something to me and not just a pretty picture.So i think you should wait until your 18 because it gives you time to really think about what the tattoo would mean to you.

I personally feel that teens at the age of 16 should be allowed to get a tattoo without the consent of there parent or guardian. Besides two years of age what is the difference between a 16 year old and a 18 year old? I am very for it becoming leagal to get a tattoo at the age of 16.

people under 18 shouldn't be able to get a tattoo.  Wait until you are an adult and make that decision.  Why be in such a hurry when you have all the time to get.  At least wait until you are sure, so then you dont have to make any mistake at all about your body!

Hi everyone! I am a 9th grader working on a HUGE school project. Can anyone comment that has an opinion on these questions? Also,please leave your age, THANK YOU SO MUCH.
1.) Should kids under 18 be allowed to get an abortion? If so, do you think that parents' consent is necessary?
2.) Should kids under 18 be allowed to get tattoos without parents consent? What if its okay with their parents?

I think that regaurdless if your 14 or 16 i don't think that you should be making decisions that will stick with you the REST of your life! I'm 18 and i recently asked my parents if i could get a tattoo!~ My mom has one and so i thought i would see how she feels about having a tattoo of "love" just written on her arm!~ she hates it! If you want to go to a nice place and you have some thing on your body it not going to look to classy!~I like tattoo's don't get me wrong but i don't think that before 18 you relize all of the consequences it could bring!~

I think that anybody should be able to get a tattoo!!! its your own choice if you want to put something on your body. I also don't think a parent should have to give permission to the minor because its not the parents body. If you regret your tattoo in the long run then there is always laser surgery.

I am 16, and I got a tattoo.  I went to a legal parlor and I needed my parents consent.  I don't regret getting it done because I like what it stands for.

please, people should be able to get a tattoo if they want i am 17 and i got my first tattoo at the age of 16 and i don't think i made a mistake!!! I think if you are 16 and you have a parent with you, you should be able to get whatever you want!!!

Actually, in Oregon there are only certain stores where you have to be 18 or older. In Eugene for example, there are many stores that will do it with parental consent.

hell im only 13 and i already got 3 tattoos... i dont hurt nothin but i got em small for a reasoncause when they stretch i can have them RECONNECTED.... like connect the dots!! i have a little skelton in a tuxedo top of my right arm, a skelton rippin outta my skin with a machete in each hand on my top leftarm, and a skull with a rose in his mouth on my right arm under the skelton! thank u MOM!

is it ok for a father who has a bunch of tatoos on his body to tatoo his son (maybe 4 or 5 years of age)?  I saw this guy on the store who had tatoos all over and his little boy already had a few tatoos on his arms, isn't this child abuse?.

I think children under the age of 18 shuld get a tattoo, as itz their body to look after. However, i'm 14 myself, and i've been thinking about getting a tattoo and to be honest, I'm gona wait! If i'm gettin a  tattoo now, it's gona stretch coz i'm still in ma growing phase.....it wuld look ridiculous when i'm older!!!

people should be aloud to get tattoos because its their body and they can do what they want to it. Why should you have your parents permission if you want a tattoo I think you should be able to get one.

I really do beleive people under the age of 18 should be able to get a tattoo but with Parental consult. Sometimes if teens go and get tattoo's when they are under 18 and without telling their parents they get something stupid and regret it when they grow up and have to endure the pain and cost of getting it removed.. I think that if you think you are ready and you are mature enough to get one then your parents will know that also.. You may have to do a little extra work for it but you will get one.. And even if your parents won't let you get a tattoo right now if it sounds so good right now and you really want it bad enough it is probably worth the wait until you are 18.

I am doing my senior project on tattoos an arguing that tattoos should decrease the age limit to 15 with parent consent i mean like some people said you only live once why not make the best out of it.  They should let you get a tattoo if your parents lets you my mom let me but yet they would not let me get it in a tattoo shop because i was 17 3 months from being 18 wouldn't that lead you to get it with someone who is not a professional?  It almost convinced me too but thank good i got mine and it was done the right way.

i think anyone should be able to get a tattoo at any age but its their fault if it starts stretching because of them growing i also think they should have parental permission to get a tattoo
