I think this is a species that will not breed
in captivity. Unless maybe you simulate there natural enviorment perfectly (Pakistan & India). Like any fish they know when the conditions to breed are right, it takes experimentation. I have no idea how to tell the sexes apart.

I recently purchased three of these Yo Yo loaches at over four inches in size for a whole $3.00, what a deal!!! Of course they were close to death, guess no one dared mess with them but me.  Anyways I brought them home and put them in my 75 gallon tank with my 11 inch clown loach, four huge angelfish, bolivian rams, keyhole cichlid, corydoras and a couple of plecos.  They instantly perked up, Ive never seen such rambunxiou fish before.  They are always so jolly just getting into everything, not aggresively just for fun of course.  To try to answer your question Tam about determining sex of these:  Two of my loaches are very plump with faded striations and the other one has vivid coloration and is thinner so Im thinking I have a trio of these.  I also am interested in spawning these fish and if anyone has any ideas please let them be known to us.
