there are a few products at places such as Wal-Mart that are made just for killing fleas in carpet.
Make sure you get something that kills the eggs as well , it's more expensive , but if you don't kill the eggs the fleas will return in no time.

Hi,
I just encountered this problem for the first time with my indoor dogs. My vet gave me a "cap star"? pill to rid the fleas off their skin, then 30 minutes later HAD to leave the home with them and bomb the home with a flea bomber.  2-4 hours later, depending on the bomber, I had to re-enter the home and bathe the dogs immediately with flea shampoo and a dose of Frontline.  I was told fleas can live in carpet for months even after falling off the animal and can literally lay eggs in the process of dying!  Unbelievable!  However, fleas can not live in/around cold places so fleas can never live on tile floor and rehatch.  Hope this helps for you!

Well I vacuum my floor good then I pour salt all over it and let it sit there til the next time you have to vacuum and repeat it again. You can also buy stuff at pet stores or the vet.

Shampoo your carpets with a steam cleaner but put a little DAWN dish soap and then also bathe your animals with ONLY DAWN dish soap. It kills all aged fleas and eggs.

So far we have spent $325.00 on all the products that are suppose to be the best. in the past week we have bombed every room in the house/garage and basement three times, we use the spray and the powder. We vacuum every day with the powder sprinkled in the bags, we put in a new bag each time we vacuum. We are still infested, the kicker is that we only have one cat and she is a house cat. I also would like an answer to your question.

A man on this site had wrote: Take four lemons, sliced thin, put in a large pot, pour a gallon of boiling water over the lemons....let it cool and then sponge bath...literally soak and comb your cats with the liquid.  It will not hurt them. Then sprinkle Boraxo laundry detergent around the infested area...let it stay for a day, then vacuum it up. It works!
I haven't tried it yet but I am going to.
