I understand if a Chihuahua has been abused and therefore bites, but my Chihuahua is 8 weeks old, and he is going mad with biting. I can not carry him across the road and he bites my arm off. what can I do to stop him biting. I have been telling him,"No biting"everytime but no changes yet.

Great question.  He's away from his doggy mama and learning about his environment.

First thing, please make sure you are holding him correctly, No offense intended.  He should be supported across the tummy and on the bottom, don't let his back legs dangle.  Maybe he's scared of being carried if that's the only situation where he bites.

No matter what the situation is, when he bites, scruff him gently by the skin on the back of his head, look him straight in the eye and say "NO BITE!".  Let him be the first to break eye contact, you are asserting dominance over him.  That's what his doggy mother would do, gently take him by the back of his neck in her mouth.  He understands that means 'knock it off'.  As soon as he closes his little mouth praise him for not biting.

He's young, so it shouldn't take too long, but you must be consistent and speak with an authoritative tone in your voice.  It's no good if you ask rather than command.

You can also substitute something he is allowed to chew on, such as a cuddly toy or a tiny tennis ball (both Petco and Petsmart sell them).  Scruff, say "No Bite" in commanding tone.  Present toy, say "Ok to bite" in a warm tone, perhaps even tempt puppy to bite it.

He's going to go through stages where he needs to chew, but it is Never acceptable for him to bite any human being.  Good luck and please keep this updated, it helps me give better advice to know what has worked and what hasn't for other people.

Your baby may have been a result of bad breeding. If you breed a dog with mean personalities, their babies will probably be the same. Good luck.

Chimama has great advice! Another to do when he bites is to just ignore him. Do not have anything to do with him when he bites, refuse to play with him. If he needs to be picked up, protect yourself with over mits or something. Always praise him when he's a good boy.

Chihuahuas often have nasty personalities, because they feel the need to seem mean when they are really very small and defenseless. That's why I prefer my giant Danes.
