Does basset hounds react different with a new born? I will be having a little one soon, and want my basset hound to know that we still love him, and I do not want the basset hound to become jealous. Is there anything I can do to prepare the basset hound?

I am sure by now you have found that the ever loving and forgiving basset will welcome the new baby. At least our grandson, Max the basset, welcomed our Rachel with a bit of sniffing and alot of sleeping next to wherever she was. Max, unfortunately came from a pet store...therefore a puppy mill puppy and has had plenty of problems with his legs, expensive ears,as I now call them because at age 10 1/2 Max has come to live with Grammie. He is still a wonderful dog with all kids and all people even though he has ear pain all the time. I have a wonderful vet that treats him here in NJ. People who see him can't believe his size and his wonderful nature. I hope you and your family have many wonderful years with your basset as we are having with our Max! He even came into a house with cats and an Australian cattle dog and fit in like he had always lived here with me. Enjoy and keep the basset leashed!!!
