1 mg per pound twice per day is the correct dosage for your Tzu.  Also, a helpful hint; you can get the liquified kind that is much easier to measure and administer than the capsules. If your Tzu is anything like mine she'll eat it soaked into a piece of wonder bread with no trouble at all.  Good luck!

I have a very short haired dog about 70 lb and he has seasonal skin allergies. No rash or scabby spots. Just all over itchy. He has been diagnosed for the past 2 years with seasonal allergies. Can't afford to take him to the vet, they will not tell me the correct dosage of benadryl. It is the same problem, no serious problem but so bad that he cries. What would be the correct dosage of benadrly for him. This clears up after killer frost so it is not a serious problem, except for us. Can you please offer the correct dosage for him. Thank you so much

you shouldn't give them the liquid benadryl, it has too much alcohol in it for pets.

1 mg per pound sounds like alot. My rotty weighs 120 lbs. So that would mean that he would have to take 120 mg twice a day? Thats roughly 9 1/2 pills a day. The maximum human dosage is only 6 pills per 24 hours as stated on the box. Do dogs require more than a person?

please advise: quentin@macss.net

I've read several places that the liquid benedryl has a high alcohol content that isn't recommended for dogs.  Better to stick with the pills.

Giving liquid benadryl is not recommended because of it's high alcohol content.
I recomend you open up a 25 mg capsul and cut the powder in half for every 6-8 hrs.Hope it helps.
