I have a 1996 VW Golf 1.4L. The accelerator pedal feels unusually stiff when accelerating. It appears to return to idle position O.K. There doesn't appear to be any problem getting power, but I need to insist on it. Any suggestions? Is this a VW characteristic? Other forums have suggested changing the accelerator cable. Is this a big job?

You probably have a worn out throttle cable pully. To find follow throttle cable back from engine. U will see the worn out pully there.
