I am trying to relinquish ownership on a car, of which, I am two months behind on the payments. What are my options if I do not want it repossessed but I do want to get out of the financial obligation? I still owe quite a bit on it and have almost three years left to pay.

First of all If you had put in the year make model of your car and terms of your chattel mortgage you might have found someone willing to assume the payments on it DUH. Why not try that It will get you out of losing your credit rating totally
