I inherited my Chow a year ago.  Moo is a female and is now two years old.  I agreed to keep Moo for my daughter for a "short time" as she could not keep her in her apartment.  I already had a 4 yr old fe/Collie, a 13 yr old fe/Pomeranian, a 7 yr old fe Pomeranian (3lbs), and a cat.  We also now have a puppy from our Collie (male).
I did not know anything about Chows except they are the #1 ER bite cases in the U.S.  We used much caution at first with Moo, but over time, found her to be very loving, funny, and affectionate.  Long story short...never had any problems with her and my animals or guests until very recently.  My Brother was visiting and on the second day, he was passing by her in the basement (where she sleeps at night) and patted her on the head.  She just looked up at him.  He bent down to kiss her and she bit him on the face, requiring 8 stitches. He was alone with her at the time.  He had seen me hug and kiss on her and figured it was o.k.
We are now, uncertain, as to what to do.  We have grown to love her very much but could not bare the risk of someone getting injured again by our pet.  We are expecting our first grandchild soon and this adds to our stress of making the right decision.  I have been reading up on Chows and now realize the training that we should have been engaged in from the start.  Any suggestions as to what to do now?  She is also starting to show more aggression with the Collies..seems to be playing, but very roughly.  I do not leave her alone with the Poms anymore.
