Guys!

See the Sybase query below:
select convert(float,substring(<field1>,3, charindex('/',<field1>) -3 ))
from table

I want to modify this such that,
if '/' exists in <field1>, then as above.
Else, instead of charindex('/',<field1>), I need to use datalength(<field1>)

Is there anyway that I can include everything in one statement?

add a case statement around convert and only convert when not isnull..
ie

select sys_a, case when isnull(ltrim(rtrim(substring(sys_a,charindex('/',sys_a)+4,2))),'NA') = 'NA' then 0
else convert(int,ltrim(rtrim(substring(sys_a,charindex('/',sys_a)+4,2)))) end
from table

this might work
