I have a Husky that is about 1 1/2 years old.  She was abandoned and my husband brought her home.  She is a great dog but can't be separated from us.  If we leave, she howls.  I don't know what to do.  I hate to have her go through another traumatic experience, but the howling is driving us and the neighbors nuts.  Help, please!  She is beautiful and has been through enough.  But this problem may make us look for another home for her.  Any ideas?

Huskies are pack animals and need to have company. If they are left along, they do tend to howl/whine. Once a Husky has established a habit for howling, it is very hard to break so the best thing you can do is to get another dog. This will take care of the lonely problem. If you decide to do this, make sure you get a puppy. Huskies don't tend to do will with strange dogs in their territory but they seem to know to be gentle with pups.
If your dog knows she will never get attention for whining and she is confident that you will always return, she will calm down too.
I'm sorry I can't offer any additional info. I wish you luck! Tanisha

You might also consider contacting a behaviorist after speaking with your vet.  First rule out any health issues.  Your vet could also reccomend a reputable behaviorist in your area.  Sometimes just a consultation is all that's needed to get you on the right track.
Another husky is always another good solution too of course. Definately go with a male instead of a female however.  Putting 2 females together can often present problems that you won't want to deal with .
