I am trying to rent an apartment in a major city.  After a very successful meeting with the potential landlord he said that he would "fax over the lease" even before getting an aplication from me.  Upon learning that I do not give out my social security number he then revoked the offer.  I have excellent financial references that prove I can afford the apartment, and great previous landlord references that prove I pay on time and take good care of every apartment I have lived in.  I do not give out my social security number for apartment rentals.  This is a self-appointed rule that I never violate.   Is this a violation of my privacy?  Is this considered discrimination if he denies me?  Legally am I required to give this to him?  Please email homeforchef@yahoo.com if you have any helpful info.
