What happens when you counter a creature from coming out?

What happens when you counter a creature from coming out?

The creature goes onto the stack when you play it and before it resolves it is countered...this means it goes into the graveyard and never comes into play...triggered abilities saying blah blah happens when it goes to a graveyard from play do not trigger since it didnt go to the graveyard from play
