I have received some $1.00 silver certificates varying from 1935G,H,I,J-1957. Most of them I believe are in the very fine to Au UC. This person had had them stashed all over her house. I am confused when trying to research them on what a "blue seal" is. Most all of mine has seal under Washington DC. Is that the seal? What does it mean to have a blue seal?

Hi..the blue seal indicates that they are Silver Certifciates.US currency in it's history was issued under different laws. Most of these laws indicated what the currency was backed by.The blue seals indicated these notes were backed by Silver. These notes are no longer backed by silver. If you have any more questions I will be happy to answer them.Email me at marlofan@aol.com.

Would you please tell me if the $5 silver certificate has to have the word "silver" on it to be authentic?  We have found an envelope that my grandmother wrote "silver certificates" on the outside of the envelope, but one of them does not have the word "silver" on it.  Thanks for your help.
