I have a 93 4.3 EFI chevy s10 blazer, it stalled the other day, then restarted fine a few minutes later.  An hour later I started it up to go out and it idled very rough, then died.  It smoked badly out the exhaust and left carbon on the ground.  It starts fine then sputters and dies like it's choking, it's always been maintained extremely well, what causes this.  The fuel injectors work fine, the pcv valve is replaced.

IT DEPENDS ON WITCH 4.3 YOU HAVE IF IT IS (w) engine code 99% chance you have a bad egr valve stuck open.if it is a (z) engine code and or 5 speed it could be the tps sensor and or fuel pressure regulator.

you might want to see if your engine ground is loose, I had that same problem on my blazer, when it is loose like that your engines tends to act strange and it seems like you have a big problem when sometimes all it is, is your ground wire, if not that change all your fluids to see if that helps and get a timing light to see if your timing belts are on sync.

What color is the smoke? 1st thing i would check would be computer code list. If no codes check for m.a.p. sensor either unplugged or inop. You never mentioned if was cpi or tbi. Make sure you are not making oil, i.e. check for fuel in the oil. Possible broken fuel pressure regulator.?  Check for cat. plugage.

I've got a 1989 S-10 with a Z code engine (the eighth digit in the VIN code), and it has a similar problem.  I've turned wrenches for a long time professionally, and although I have not had time to fix it yet, I am pretty sure that the IAC valve is dirty, which can cause it to stick. IAC stands for idle air control, which is exactly what it does.  It controls the amount of air allowed to bypass the throttle blade when the engine is idling.  Try cleaning the air passage with some throttle body cleaner.  You may have to remove the valve to clean it properly, and you may just want to replace it.  Hope this helps, Robert.

mine did that to its the EGR valve it when you engine is running at its best it creates this smog like what you see behind drag cars or airplanes so they put this egr valve on there to let exhaust back in the air intake i bet you EGr valve is stuck open
