To the extent of my knowledge, they are not connected
Unless you are talking about the new tales of the vampires series and then I'm not sure.....
But I do know that the Vampire Chronicles (queen of the damned, the vampire lestat, interview with a vampire) are not at all connected to the Mayfair witches series

Lynn...Yes, the witch series and the vampire chronicles are connected.  I am a huge Anne Rice fan and always am happy to talk about my favorite books.  If you haven't started reading yet, I would recommend reading the Mayfair witch books first, then read the vampire chronicles from start to finish.  I say this because once you start on the vampire books, you're not going to want to stop to read a different series.  They are so addicting.  The Mayfair witches do enter into the last few vampire books, but by the time you get to them, you'll hopefully have read all about the witches.  I hope you enjoy the books!

I, too am an Anne Rice fan and have asked myself the same question. Unfortunately for me I didn't really have a choice in the matter, I was already halfway through the fourth book of The Vampire Chronicles when I found out about the Witches series... I am not sure it matters, but there are several mentions of witches in The Queen of the Dammed and Merrick so, especially for Merrick, I wish I had read about the Mayfair witches first... Though because the Vampire Chronicles came first I would start with them. I'm not really sure about this but am going to stop rambling... If this doesn't help you at all sorry if it does, yay!

Start with Interview With The Vampire, and then go through the rest of the vampire series up till Armand.  After Armand, read Pandora, then start on the Witch series.  After you finish that, pick up Merrick.  Blackwood Farm and Blood Canticle come next.
