You need to be very careful when introducing a Jack Russell into a family that already owns a dog.  Usually, you want a male if you already own a female.  Two females will compete with each other.  Jack Russells do not always get along with other dogs.  They are very scrappy and they fight, nor will they back down when they are in a fight.  They have no qualms about picking fights with dogs that are much bigger than they are, and the results are usually pretty disastrous because the Jack is so much smaller.  You need a dog that is very mellow and accepting of other dogs, one that will tolerate another dog, growling, snapping, etc. just in the course of playing.  Jacks play very rough.  It only takes one small fight to mortally wound a smaller dog.

We actually had a male Ridgeback and made the same considerations when acquiring our JRT.  We researched and spoke to various breeders who suggested we keep opposite sexes together, particularly because of the two specific breeds we were considering in keeping together - so we acquired a female.  You should acquire a male - they will do well - but it may take up to a week or two.

We have a female and a male and get on like a house on fire so i reccomend a male to go with the female be aware they do have little scwobbles just like any human :P
but nothing to serious and also the female is usually the boss! ours is, even tho shes smaller and the male has the muscle as a body builder don't forget they can have pups
she will come into season u might have to get her done or get a good healthy male.
but at the end of the day its all to do with the dogs temperament
