President Franklin D Rossevelt and his staff, knew very well that Japan would reciprocate to our oil embargo placed upon an island community with know natural resource's of it's own. This embargo was a deliberate subterfuge to encourage the American public to go to war. Stopping Hitler in Europe was essential. However the American public opinion was that Europe's conflicts did not concern us. In 1940 women didn't drive, jet propulsion have yet to be invented and Hitler's Audubon was the most sophisticated infrastructure known to the world. President Rossevelt had remarkable insight. How does one teach the blind to see? Only the future will reveal weather our current President has or had such remarkable intuition as his predecessor. It is my belief that know such intuition exists. Saddam put a contract out on Bush senior's head, during Dessert Storm. For the son, it's pay back time. Japan attacksPearl Harbor and America declares war on Germany. Afghanistan'sruling warlord's attack New York City, and America attacks Iraq. The reader must keep in mind that our assailants literally still live in tents and caves. There are very few "automobiles" among these people. Refrigeration to these people is a luxury. The entire country has a singular broadcasting company, and very few radio stations. In fact, one of the strategies employed by US forces, was to air drop battery powered radio's (batteries included). The pentagon's intent was not propagation, as in previous conflicts, but rather to inform the Afghanistan population (damned if you do, and damned if you don't). It was reason enough once before, although the reason's for America's participation in Europe's conflict with Germany (WWII), once again (WWI, was Germany's Kaiser's attempt to rule the world)had predominantly better foresight based upon previously recorded facts. Bush Sr. and the UN sent a coalition of combined forces into the Gulf region of the Middle East to extract Iraqi Forces from their occupation of Kuwait, in 1990 (Dessert Storm). The reason Bush Sr. did not pursue the retreating Iraqi forces into Iraq (thereby conquering/capturing Saddam Hussein), were the same reasons President Harry S. Truman did not allow Gen. George Patton to pursue the Russian army into Russia, and attack/conquer Stalin's  Communist Russia, after taking Berlin in 1945. Bush Jr. is the first American President to have attacked/occupied/conquered more then one country within his first administration. Given four more years and the right empowered (by himself) Generals, America just may be able to do what Genghis Caun, the Kaiser and Hitler attempted before their ultimate and inevitable complete governmental collapse.
Very few Americans know how many times America has been attacked on our own soil.  His Royal Majesty'stroop's were sent to the America's to punish and put down the rebellious colonialsand execute their leaders (our forefather's) as trader's and mutineer's to the crown. Three different mission's were attempted, in early 1776, in 1778, and in 1812, American's were attacked by a foreign body of forces, on our own soil (1-3). Poncho Villa crossed into US territory, in the early 1900's and attacked a small garrison of US troop's in Arizona. Future President Theodore Rossevelt was sent into Mexico with his seasoned rough rider's on a punitive mission, which failed to capture/kill Pancho Villa after all most two year's pursuit(4). Japan attacked Pearl Harbor(5). A German U-Boat surfaced off the coast of Washington, early 1940's, and fired upon US soil briefly, then submerged and was not seen again(6). Afghanistan'sruling Warlord's (The Tali Ban) subsidized by a misfit, wealthy, diseased, Saudi Arabian citizen, used ill informed, uneducated, brainwashed, and superstitious coward's to commandeer our own aircraft and use these concubines as their only means capable of contributing to the noticeable destruction/attack on US soil. 911's terror attack on New York City and the failed attempt on Washington DC (the pentagon), was the longest planned attack against America on US territory, yet to be recorded. The reason so much time was taken was because these cave dweller's had motivation but lacked the means
The only thing evil needs to survive, is for good men to do nothing. Hitler truly believed he was doing the best thing possible for his people. Saddam truly believed the same thing, even when he use chemical weapon's on the entire population of citizen's within his own boundaries. President George W. Bush believes he's doing the right thing by the people. He's protecting us from them. But who will protect us from him after them are gone? And if by protecting us, he's able to take out an old family torn, so much better the protection. The only thing the past has shown us is that it will be repeated in our future. If we only knew then, what we know now, we'd be able to change nothing, because we do know now, what our past has been. Terrorism, Communism, ethnic cleansing, religious belief's, and freedom, will all be recorded in history as man's insatiable thirst to conquer/deploy/control and direct the destiny of populance alien to our own belief's. Why did America get involved in WWII? Because it was there and we could.

I think that Roosevelt did not wish to go to war with the axis powers. Yes he did have prior knowledge of the attack made by Japan but he did not know where or when they had planned for this.

Evidence shows Japan was suppling German forces with oil, so they cut off the supply this made them infuriated. When America heard about some German scientists discovery of the use of fisson and wanted to create an atomic weapon, the Manhattan Project was then launched by Roosevelt. Since the Americans won the race to the creation of the bomb, and Roosevelt knew the Japanese would retaliate eventually, which they did, known as Pearl Harbor. This was just an excuse to use the atomic bomb, they choose Japan to show some aggressiveness. If I am incorrect please correct me :P

The United States entered World War II because of:
1. The bombing of Pearl Harbor-an attack so vicious as that cannot go unpunished
2. The situation with Germany Nazi's and the Jewish was getting out of hand. Nobody knew if the stories about what was really was happening.
3. Germany had also began invading other countries and that was against the Versailles Treaty.
4. Germany was building up a huge army which was also against the Versailles Treaty.
5. The United States after the depression, in the beginning stages of World war II had one of the smallest armies and we needed to build up again and be seen as a super power again.

Answering "Hitler truly believed he was doing the best thing possible for his people,"
the point is that the US meddling around the world in the affairs of other countries can not compared with Hitler's problems, bringing home arch-German territories, the provinces of West Prussia and Sudetenland with over six million kidnapped Reich Germans. Roosevelt understood the problem very well, better than his countrymen. Roosevelt had gone to school in Bad Nauheim, Germany and did not hate Hitler, but rather Germans in general. Besides, his advisers of Steven Wise, Baruch, Frankfurter, Brandteis, Weizmann, Goldmann and Cornel House needed a war to bring all of Europe down to bankruptcy. The New World Order had to crush Nationalism, Patriotism and all folkish identities before the NWO could be implemented.
PS
The war was not necessary:
The oil strangulation against Japan was deliberately imposed to manipulate Japan into the war, thereby bring Nazi-Germany in to it.
PS
It was not the US, which won the war, it was the UDSSR. It was not the US conquering Berlin, again it was the UDSSR.
When the US invasion took place on 6.6.44, the war was already decided. Again the Russian deserve the credit for bravery. My father said, the Americans had been the worse soldiers of all the allies. Only their carpet and phosphorus bombs against women and children are remembered. Thanks Knut
