I have a pair of Karrimor Gortex boots which I have had for around 2 1/2 years.  I have done a lot of walking/hill walking in them and they have never caused me any problems until recently.  I did a 24 mile walk on the flat in them and found that they are now bruising my toes and causing blistering to the balls of my feet.  Is this because my feet are not tough enough yet or is it my boots?

I have a pair of the same boots and the same happens when i walk on the flat , it is because the boots are designed to support your feet when they are moving in a variety of positions and when you walk on the flat it is one continuous ,SAME movement thus the bruses or blistering , that is why a softer soled pair of shoes are more for flat walking, hope that explains it a little
