In the beginning, it was stilled believed that the battleship was the king of the seas but after pearlharbor all of that changed. The United States knew that Pearl could never have been attacked with out the Japanese carriers and the US knew that carriers would be needed to defeat Japan due to the vastness of the Pacific ocean. They were also used in the Atlantic but only as anti submarine defense
