I have an active son who is 5 years old and in good health. I have recently discovered that he stops breathing at night. Within a 30 minute time frame, he will stop breathing 5-10 times, with a time span that can range anywhere from 2-10 seconds. I have looked on the net for some answers and know about sleep apnea. There is a question that keeps me awake at night. Is there a possibility that my son can die at night when he stops breathing?

my daughter is a month old she is on a monitor because she forgets to breathe in her sleep it goes off quite a few times while she is sleeping... the loud beep usually gets her back to breathing before i get to her but if she didn't get startled and was not on it i would hav probably already lost her do to the fact that you can't keep an eye on them everytime they sleep no matter how hard you try......I would take no chances on any kind of problem where your child quits breathing because I also had a son that was 4 months and died of sids. The only explenation I got was "it's when they quit breathing in their sleep". I would talk to my doctor and have him find something he could give him or figure out what causes him to do this. They have recently put my little girl on a type of medicine called "caffeine "(since then she has had not one episode of where she quits breathing.
