My Imac OS9 is running VERY slowly.  I can get the internet running, but I can not receive my email without going to the server's home page.  Even there, it is very slow.  Could I have picked up a virus, and if so, how do I correct the problem?  I have Norton Anti-virus.

You may need to add more memory (RAM) to the machine. More memory is always helpful. If the machine always ran fine before, and/or you feel that you have plenty of memory, then you may want to look into reinstalling the OS. A fresh OS install does wonders. One other option, if you don't want to wipe your hard drive clean, would be to open the Extensions Manager in your Control Panels, and run down the list of extensions and get rid of anything you don't need. Make sure you really don't need it though. Unfortunately, there is no longer a guide to all of the OS 9 extensions online, so you really need to know what you're doing before turning off any extensions.

You should also try to run a program to expunge your system of spyware, adware, and a registry cleaner. Those 3 areas start to take up a lot of system resources after not too long a time (adding more RAM works, but even that will start to be decayed by the increase of spyware/adware/and useless registry entries)
