more of an answer really.,I had a vertical bridge 6 weeks ago 15mm long 1.6 gauge teflon to avoid rejection. All was going well untill I got covered in residue as a result of doing some heavy duty metal polishing with a seriously severe polishing machine. It went septic. I suffered for a couple of weeks with a bright red bulge between my eyes. It removed it a couple of times and rinsed it through with a syringe of warm water with a little sea water dissolved in it. My big mistake was when I re inserted my jewelry (teflon) I screwed the stainless balls so tight the piercing couldn't drain and ended up very angry. As soon as I loosened the balls things got better. I used a syringe with a specialy adapted needle, it had a rounded polished end to avoid ripping new flesh
