Go to a reputable professional piercing studio. They will pierce with needles rather than a piercing gun - it's hard for piercings done with the gun to heal properly as they use relatively blunt studs and cause a lot of tissue trauma. Professional piercers use a sharp needle (and trust me it hurts way less than the gun) and will put in rings (sleepers) as the rings are easier to keep clean and let the piercing heal than with studs.

The studio will also be able to tell you how to take care of the piercing properly so that it heals nicely and is less likely to close up once healed if you leave your earrings out for a while. The studio might cost a bit more than some mall place with a gun, but it's well worth it!

The most common reason for earlobe piercings closing up is simply leaving the jewelry out for too long. It varies from person to person but it could be anywhere from 12 hours to a couple of weeks that you can leave earlobe jewelry out without the hole closing up. Second would be taking the jewelry out before the piercing is properly healed - the hole might start to close up after just an hour. I highly doubt orange or lemon juice will do much except sting a lot!

I had my ears pierced when I was about 5 years old. I'm now almost twenty. I had a problem with my left piercing always closing. Never any problems with the right ear. I'd take out my earrings at night and the left one would be mostly closed when I woke up (I'd had the piercing a long time and it still did that). Once I had to re-poke the hole (I know, bad idea) and it was a little off center. Now it won't close! But it's off center and it drives me nuts!! I want to get them re-pierced but I'm not sure how long it'll take to totally close. I redid the hole months ago. You can still see the hole, but I think it's mostly closed. Will it ever go away?
