World War II set the stage for the impressive growth of the modern business enterprise and of the economy itself in the postwar years. The commitment to support the mass market, coupled with the spread of industrial technology and the increased knowledge of administrative techniques promised tremendous postwar economic expansion which the large integrated and diversified industrial enterprises were in the best position to exploit. The conglomerate variation of business could be considered to have made the greatest profit after the war.
