Am having difficulty making connection with Telnet (several clients) and searching for related areas which may help resolve the problem.  It would seem that Winsock might cause this .
Windows 98 operating system's Telnet.exe freezes after attempting to connect and eventually reports back "cannot connect to <target>".  Using another Telnet client (Putty.exe) with SSH, a connect attempt produces no action.  I also use another client called "DXTelnet, which is geared toward amateur radio operator usage.
This produces: "trying xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx", but does nothing else.
Strangely enough, I cannot ping the IP address, either, although my browser and email works first class.  ISP is Verizon DSL.  Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance.
