It really does not matter what you wear to be sXe. There isn’t a dress code. However, straight edge has made a strong subculture following for it self which makes stereotypes along with fashion almost unavoidable. If you're asking for stereotypes then I guess it would depend on what you consider “punk clothes”... I hate to typecast and I feel almost vain giving fashion advice but... If you're talking about mohawks, liberty spikes, bondage pants, leather jackets, and old dirty t-shirts then no. Straight Edge kids tend not to look like that. (Not stereotypically anyway…) I guess they tend to stick more to the hardcore scene's "sense of fashion." ie: 1) baggy cargo shorts (even in January), hooded sweatshirts (even in July), ankle socks, and running shoes plus short military looking hair cuts. OR the ever so popular 2) Tight women's jeans (on both men and women) tight vintage or band t-shirts or tight dress or cowboy/western looking button up shirts, big flashy belt buckles, shaggy girly hair, (again on both men and women) some old vans… “Scenesters” or what have you… Please excuse my sarcasm but seriously; just go to a few hardcore shows and you'll see how fashion conscious us straight edge kids really are. (Even if we say we aren't)

All of you probably think of punks as wearing black shirts with bondage pants and chuck Taylors, that's wrong. Punk is no rules. You dress to stand out in the crowd. Like me for example. I have a blue Mohawk, I'll wear a white almost skin tight shirt with a political saying like "Nazi Punks F**** Off", then I have a pair of black shorts with cloth patches pined on them and white socks that go pass my knees, I wear blue military boots, and then a flannel shirt tied around my waist. The is something a punk would wear. A punk's personality is rebellion, and to have no rules or in other words ANARCHY. And they smoke drink have sex and do drugs. A straight edger is a punk just they say no to drugs smoking sex out of wedlock and drinking by putting a X on their hands with a black marker or black electrical tape. So !YES STRAIGHT EDGERS WEAR PUNK CLOTHES BECAUSE THEY ARE PUNKS!!!!!

Hey, i have no idea how old this forum is or if its even being used, but most of the straight edgers i know arnt punk at all. Personally i think this whole stupid sXe thing is an attempt at a club type thing. Im gothic, or newcore which ever you are more fimiliar with. My friend hes totally normal and yes into hardcore as well as types of heavy metal, adn then one of the girls i know is an adidas girl. so i mean its a little ... i dunno... wrong to steriotype a straight edger. I dont want to be associated with the whole sXe thing, although im straight edge all the way, their is no point to drugs or any of that stuff. i dunno if you guys are going to be offended by this and i hope not, but i hope this helps , ... i dunno if you guys allow advertising, but heres a site that hosts a " straitedge " chat. [diff spelling cuz i felt like it] it is heavily used at sometimes and others not so much

hahahah no, i'm from cincinnati, and all the straight edge kids here have terror shirts or casey jones shirts supporting straight edge, with their huuuuuuge gauges and septum piercings. it's also very common to see the "hardcore" or edge kids with bridge piercings, lip piercings aka snakebites, septums, gauges, tattoos with 'stay true, stay pure, etc.' on them. and they shave what is called "steps" in their hair, where you shave your head to almost a military cut look and lines shaved in them, i have them on the sides and even though i'm a girl. oh, and they wear reds hats to rep. cincinnati. i don't get what it is, to start dancing and stuff in the pit, it's almost like they don't come for the music, it's more of a popularity contest.

well, you see, i agree with "J". im very straight edged but you can tell im pretty punk. i wear the dark clothes (not always though), i wear my converses (the kind most people dont have though) but im also very hippy. i wear lots of peace signs. im kind of a walking talking oxymoron. hope that helps.

I don't think you can "label" a straight-Edge Because everyone Has their own unique style and personalty (Almost Everyone). I have a friend who is a straight-Edge and he is every serious about but I would go and label him as a "punk" He just has a very unique Style. Of course I'm the kind of person that thinks people shouldn't be labeled and separated into groups because of the clothes they wear,music they listen to,Or the way the choose to live their lives.

I can't say I completely agree... I myself am sXe and Im pretty punk. I even have a friend that's sXe and shes a complete prep and is proud of it.

Punk is a way of life there is no specific way to dress. punk is about respect, tradition and most of all fighting for what you believe in. it has nothing to do with the way you dress.

Yeah, I definetely agree with J. I have been sXe for 3 years now & I just wear band t-shirts & tight jeans. & hoodies in the middle of August, haha. & Vans shoes that are about 2 years old. Good stuff. Being Straight Edge just means that youd on't drink, smoke, do , or have promiscuous . Like J said, it's not a dress code. <3

well, the straightxedge style is basically the same as the hardcore style. tight cuffed pants, belt buckles, vintage shirts, HOODIES, often bandanas worn across the face for battle ( or dancing) and sauconys, new balances chucks...such. but straightxedge is not a fashion scene its about a way of life.

It really depends on u. But as for history, straight-edge started as a punk movement in the 1980s. So to ask if a straight edger wears punk clothes is a kinda odd question. Punk has alwayz supported u be urself and not go mainstream so ther is no true preference of a straight-edger. people should be catagorized by the way they choose to live thats "them" but not by what they dress or listen to those are matierial but there views and opinions some catagory should be made so you know what to expect from people

You can't really make labels and stereotypes like that, though. Because yeah, "punks" may dress differently than "sXe" kids. But ya know what? Who cares. The whole point is to express yourself and be an individual. Dress how you want man. I like to consider myself "punk", I wear bondage pants and all that fun stuff. But I'm also sXe... in short... who cares?

Straight Edge isnt about fashion, its about values. But on topic... Im a Punkrock/Hardcore Edger. I wear plaid bondage pants sometimes, but I'll also wear a nice tight pair of jeans.

I think that the "straightedge" look and the "punk" look are totally differnt. If your a "punk" in straightedge clothes then to most its not really punk (although to me Punk is alllll about the music!!). I've never seen a "straightedge" in punk clothes, because the styles of both are so different. ....not sure if that helps

you people are all idiots if u have to ask these stupid questions this none of these scenes are for you. straight-edge means u dont do drugs, it doesnt matter what type of god damn clothes you wear, the music you listen to doesnt make what type of person you are and there are also many punks, skinheads, hardcore kids or whatever that like different types of music as well and wear different things

wheither you are a straight edger or not it doesnt mater wot you wear.look on the bright side im a punk i have short spiky hair i wear vintage clothing rock tees tie random stuff.now that i am a beginner at being a straight edger i still wear the same clothing.its not wot you look like on the outside by wot your wearing its wot ur like on the inside bad or not.but when i was a bad punk/rebel chic i gt wot was in me but i have changed as a person now that i have become a straight edger ive become more fun to be with and against drinking to get drunk and stuff.its who you are that matters not wot you wear.

and also if you do go to a hardcore show and see that the "scene" does consist of tight girl pants, camo shorts, band shirts, white studded belts, etc., you can see kids that arent even edge that follow up with the sense of fashion. when you are edge, you dont take on a image, unless you put yourself out that way (x's on your hands, edge shirts, etc.). being edge is a way to live your life. if someone chooses to be christian, they dont look a certain way. if you have any questions. aim- lamoradidio

some people ask me, well you listen to punk why dont you dress like it. i think there is this stereotype in which "punk rock kids have to wear punk cloths. well first off i dont consider myself a punk. not anything but yes i listen to it but if you were to look at me you would not know. i think its dumb to seperate people to groups. its how you think. what you belive in. well i mean why do ppl have to be labled into groups any way? i mean we all have different sides to us. sometimes we walk around in pajamas sometimes not. not every one is the same. so how can we really put a whole bunch of people into one group of people if they all have diferent personalities. so if we have to label ppl then lets do it by their personalities and not by what they look like and what they wear.
