Considering the version of IP that we use (IPv4). Each IPs (146.164.41.2, 216.239.39.99, ...) is composed by 4 numbers with range 0 to 255. So are 4 bits in each number, forming a number of total 32 bits. So exists 2^32 = 4294967296 IPs (hosts).
Now exists IPv6 too, composed by 2^48 numbers!
