A sheep that is cast is found lying on its back unable to get up.  This can happen when pregnant or too much wool.

a cast sheep is one that has been feeding and lain down for a rest, its feet get off center where they can't touch the ground and then roll onto its back, gases begin to build up and if not found in the course of a few hours it will die !

It means it can't get up from a laying-down position. Usually happens when they're old as far as I know - give them a drink of water and some hay and they often recover fully!
