as far as i know, the tearing that you are talking about is normal. i have heard from several people who own chihuahua'sand they all tell me this is just a natural thing that comes along with this breed. my little 3 month old chi does this too. her face is black already, so i dont have to worry about it being too noticable. i have been told though, that you can run a damp warm cloth over the eye area once a day to keep it from lookin messy. but other than that, its just part of having a chi.

You could also try vacuuming frequently, as dust and etc. will irritate their eyes, being so close to the ground.  I Am Not suggesting that you are not a good housekeeper, but I notice myself that if my hardwood floors have dust or lint (I sew a lot) my dogs eyes tear more.  A warm washcloth once or twice a day will remove the dried tears.  Rubbing a little Vaseline under the eye will also keep the tears from staining, but be careful not to get it too close to the eye itself.

Both my little ones can cry at will, it's so funny when they want a treat or a cuddle, their little eyes well up.  As soon as they get what they want, the tears are gone.

I can tell you from personal eye problems that eye drops such as Tears Natural or Refresh can probably be used in each eye. (You can check with your vet, but I seriously doubt that they would object to using Tears Natural or Refresh.) Tearing may be the result of allergies, blocked tear ducts, etc. If it is due solely to allergies or dry eyes, the drops will probably be sufficient. When the eyes tear too much, a film usually forms. Trying to see through the film creates eyestrain and usually results in even more tearing. By flushing the eyes, any strain will be reduced or eliminated. Just to be 100% sure that it is not due to a physical problem, you might want to take her to a vet.
