I need suggestions for potty training a 4 mo. old male pug....

I have acquired a 4 month old male pug.  He was not potty trained.  He is in a small kennel during the work day and does not soil it at all.  I have been taking him out 1 time per hour and he goes.  However, sometime he just pees where ever he is.  He does not appear to give any signals.

Any suggestions.... also, how long do I need to keep him in the kennel during the day.  When can I quit doing that????

Thank you for your ideas!

anytime you see him sniffing, even if he just was outside to go potty, you need to take him back outside...also, some pugs will start circling in the spot they are about to go potty in...you can also keep him in the kennel for a total time of 8 hours...that is what is suggested, in my experience, anymore for my pug, and he gets "upset" i guess you could call it. once he knows to go potty outside fully, and he knows not to go in his kennel, you could keep doing that forever, it is good for the pug to have a certain place to go for himself, he may even start going in there on his own, because it is his own place.
