DO NOT pierce it with a safety pin. The safety pin can actually begin to deteriorate (decompose) inside your stomach. Get a piercing kit, you can buy them online or probably some where by you. 24 is kind of big, they standard size is 14 gauge. When you get the kit, it comes with a clamp, so it's a lot easier to pull the skin out and pierce it then have to hold it while you pierce it with a safety pin. Plus, when you get the kit, everything is pre-sanitized. Your choice though. I know people who have done it with a safety, and it turned out great. Others have done it and it got so infected they had to take it out. I would say just go and get it done some place where they know what they're doing. You can make the hole above your belly button (the flap of skin) or below which is called an inverse navel (the flap of skin under your belly button.) The top navel is the most common piercing :~)

hi guys if u want to pierce your own bellys its a good idea to get a hyperdermic needle or a iv drip with cannulas,these are hollow and will push out the skin rather than squessing a solid object through. also clamps would be a good idea if u can get one where possible try looking on ebay for pennigton's or forresters clamps,these are like the ones in the piercing shops. not only will they aid the needle going in,they will hold the required ammount of skin,work as a target and also block of some of the blood supply causing less bleeding and pain. as to freezing there isnt really much point because anyhting used on external will only freeze the skin on the outside the best method to use would be do it as quickly as possible,providing ur on target,and pierce as u exale. as for sterilizing the best method would be with out an autoclave would be place your jewellery and clamps in a dilutted bleach solution then place them in a boling pan,because a little sterilization is better tahn none. also one more thing use a none toxic felt tip pen to mark off ur piercing on either side,otherwise u may end up with to much skin to pierce or a wonky piercing. Remember if your fortunate enough to get the hollow needles make sure they come in there pre stearilized pack also use idealing a 14ga and using a 16ga jewellery so that ur able to move the jewellery afterwards and aids healing. a great site for tools if ur able to buy online is http://www.mrpiercing.com happy piercing and be carefull

well... i peirced my own belly button a while ago and it was fine i just didnt have it in the right spot it was up to high... i used a safety pin that i took right out of the new package soaked it in hydrogen peroxide and then burnt it with a lighted to kill and other germs.. then i put a bag of ice on my belly button for an hour and i just percied it strting from the top ... it didnt hurt at all and after i was done i put neosporine on it.. i kept it in for two days and it didnt get infected but i took it out because it was done wrong... i have it peireced now but this time i went to a real place.. i got a freidn who was old enough to drive me and she hooked me up with a fake ID and it worked and now i have it peirced and it looks sooo cute and i love it ... well hope i could help!!!

I did mine by myself last year i went through my hole house tryin to find a sewin needle that look as big as the belly button ring...me and my friend where in my room the hoole day counting and i finally got it in my bellybutton i knew if i took it out it would close up so i just taped the needle to my stumach so when i slept it didnt stab me or anything then i tried to put the belly button ring on in skewl but it hurt like hell i finally got it in but i decided to take it out cuz my teachers found out and they told me that if it got infected it could infect so bad i would b able to walk..well a week latedr it got badly infected it hurt when i walked and sit down that was like 4 months ago and its still not done healing but i got a scar so i say u could do it but make sure u want it badly enough!and if u decide to take it out like me then be prepared for it to hurt and get a scar for life!

I'm 14 and I want my tongue and belly button pierced. My parents won't let me. (Why are 14 year-olds the majority of those who want their belly buttons pierced anyways?) There's no way I'm going to pierce my tongue myself, so I want advice on how to pierce my belly button. I've pierced it before, but I didn't have a barbell to put in it (so i took it out about a week later...I don't think the hole was big enough anyways) I pierce it with a large safety-pin and I cleaned it and my stomach with rubbing alcohol. I iced my stomach for a couple of minutes. I still need advice for when I re-pierce it. I need to buy a gauge, but anything else I need to use I'll have to find around the house. hey, i pierced mine on tuesday.. i used a safty pin and i left it in for about 2 days.. to let the hole be there.. then when i got home on thrusday i got a 14g belly ring and i just started from the top and pushed through.. it hurt but it was worth it.. and doing it with a sefty pin is safe.. because it is easy to take out.. and i got the pro's to look at it and they said i did i a good job.. and just make sure u clean it with DIAL soap.. and put neosporin sp on it and clean it twice a day.. because it can get infected and that really stinks.. so yeah just be careful when you do it becayse u could mess up and it will just be really painful! :. .: .:* :. :. .:* .:* :. .: :. :. .:* .:* :. :. .:*

i suggest you get it done by sum1 who knows what there doing if not your hole stomach area can get infected and coverd in puss also when puss dries on the belly ring be sure to wash your hands and get it off . do not use alcohol or neosporin alcohol can dry out the skin do not go swimming for a lest a week it does not hurt when your getting it done as long as its fast i have mine done for a while now when i got mine done it did not even bleed at all try not to focus on getting it pierced and stare at a wall or something do not use a gold ring it has more of a chance of gettin infected start off wit a starting Ring so you can clean it better if it gets in infected which i most likely will get sea salt and water and pore it our your navel piercing if your really skinny i suggest you not get it done i can work its way outta the skin more easer also eat a little before you get it done because after words your kinda sick and might pass out at the thought of something in u as i did but it turned out for the best please don't try to Peirce it your self as it will only lead to serious problems always keep your hands clean try not to sleep on you stomach if u can not avoid that put gauss on it and put a bandage do not wear short tops it can get a lot of germs that way wear your pants below you piercing if you must Peirce it your self be sure to get clamps and put a rubber bad on them to hold them lay down and have sum-one you strength do it. your navel it like leather so thats y u need sum1 strong to push it through if any q.u. im me or email me at supasweetie99@aol.com thanks i hope i helped you guys out

uhmmm.... i got my belly button pierced yesterday by my friend and after she did it i left the pin in my belly button.. for the night and then in the morning when i went to school and then at lunch my firend asked me it i wanted ot get the earring in and i said yaa soo we wnet over to the park and she took out the pin and tried ot put it in but it was to think soo we tried another and it wouldnt go in and now i dont got it done no more how could i get it back in within the next to days i thought that i can just go to the store and get a thingy that can do it for u by pushing it but i dont got no money and how would i get that??!!... and my other fiend is getting it done tonight at 4:30 and i think maybe what i can do is ask the guy if he could just put the hole back in for me but im ont sure soo can u plz vote cuzz i want it done and i want it done fast!!!

i peirced mine quite a few times wit a safty pin its now that bac but mi parents found out n made me take it out this weekend i just got mi belly button peirced by a professional and i think that ne1 that wants it dont should just wait till they r aloud if ur parents dont like the idea wait a year then ask again eventually they will let u n if not wait till ur 18 n move out n get it done but dont do it by urself its stupid it could get infected n get a gross n u dont want that so just wait the perfesionals kno wut there doin n u dont do u see were im goin with this its stupid! so just go to a profesional......(theres always that option of waiting untill ur 16 n getting it peirced without ur parents there n just dont tell them but dont try it by urself\\\\\\\\\\peace!!!

ok guys heres da scoop!this is the answer. ok first take a peroxide pad and wipe ur navel and all around it,then take a close pen and grip it, after take ice and salt hold it on for 5 mins or until the ice melts, then take a sewing pen and wipe it alot with a peroxide pad, go from bottom to top and push it throgh WHILE NUMB(if not it will hurt like hell) .after take ur barge or the ring of ur choice and push it through.leva ein for about 5 months before changing.....no u cant bleed to death...no DONT USE A SAFTY PIN!.....after care....1) Wash your hands thoroughly before cleaning or handling any piercing, especially if the piercing is ?fresh?, or experiencing complications. 2) The best and simplest kind of cleaning solution is Saline solution, which is 99% sterile water and 1% pure salt (SodiumChloride). Saline can be purchased at a Chemist, a Pharmacy or made at home. If you make saline at home then you will need to boil some water in a clean pot or pan, pour the freshly boiled water into a container with a lid and then add less than � tea-spoon of pure Sea or Mineral Salt. Use cotton buds to apply the solution to the area of your piercing and to wipe away any excess fluid or crust that has formed there. Try to make sure that your piercing stays dry. 3) you should clean your piercing regularly, at least twice a day and sometimes more if you have exerted yourself (i.e. exercise) or if it is hot and you are perspiring/sweating throughout the day. Be attentive to the changes in your piercing. Catching signs of problems early on is the best time to deal with them quickly. It?s also a good way of making sure that you?re not over cleaning your piercing. 4/ Once the piercing has healed, you will have an artificial tunnel inside your flesh. This is called a fistula and it also benefits from regular cleaning. Infections can often begin as bacterial growth inside the fistula, so flushing it with saline solution every three or four months (slightly more frequently in the summer months) can help inhibit the build up of germs and bacteria that lead to fungal infections or thrush. Some people?s fistula close quite quickly once jewellery is removed so its best to have sterilised jewellery and cleaning solutions to hand so the job gets done quicker. Lubricate the tip, or the ?thread?, of the jewellery with a water-based, antiseptic lubricant; approach your piercer, or doctor for suggestions. 5) Taking a bath soaks an abdominal piercing in bath-water, which gets dirty very quickly, and could clog a fresh piercing with nasty germs. A shower is preferable because it is a constant stream of fresh water, washing dirt, grime and germs away from your body. Swimming in chlorinated pools is likely to irritate your piercing so it?s best avoided until the piercing has healed; though seawater is, technically, great for your skin, it would be wise to avoid bathing in beaches with a reputation for having high concentrations of pollutants. 6) Your clothing can interfere with your piercing in a few ways. If an item of clothing fits too tightly over the area that is pierced, rubbing it, then the piercing becomes aggravated, inflamed and sore to the touch. It will produce a clear puss-like liquid and the skin around the piercing might be encouraged to reject the jewellery. If the clothing you wear is not loose enough to allow fresh air to enter and exit the area around the piercing then the area can overheat enough to allow germs and bacteria to develop and cause you problems. Bear in mind that the location of the piercing might suffer the stresses of everyday activities. People who have their navel pierced, for example, but do sit-ups regularly would be advised that this strenuous activity will aggravate the piercing. Another example might be a parcel courier with a nipple piercing might have to switch the side of the body they hang their bag from. 7) To give a piercing the best chance to heal you should consider the fact that your body requires certain nutrients and minerals to help it heal effectively. If you can honestly say that you eat a healthy diet then you are already providing your body with what it needs. If you don?t eat healthily then it might be advisable to supplement you diet with Multivitamins and minerals which can be purchased at a chemist, a pharmacy or heath shop. The bottom line is; that a healthier person stands a better chance of healing more quickly than an unhealthy one. so guys good luck and please fallow this....:)

I just pierced my belly button, well, tried to, and i definatly do not suggest trying it like i did. Stupid me, I used a sewing needle that was smaller than the ring so of course it didnt work. I also did it really slow and it hurt Really freaking bad and took about 3 hours to get it all the way through, so it was like it was already healed when i got it all the way through. I didnt have a clamp or anything either, so after i took the needle out the hole was repositioned and i had to start over. This time i just tried to use the actualy belly button ring, but gave up because it hurt more than it should have since i had already put the needle through, but i think if i would have tried harder with the ring it would have worked.. just taken longer. So if your gonna use a needle make sure you do it fast, and keep the hole in place so you wont loose it after you take the needle out to put the ring in. Also make sure the needle is big enough... at least as big as the bar on the ring. I obviously did it wrong and will probably have a scar there forever now and it will probably get infected, so make sure you know what your doing before you start. Get it professionally done if you can b/c it saves so much time, and pain.

Hey, I know some of you have already answered these questions, but I'm still a bit shaky. Here are my problems: I REALLY want my navel pierced. BUT my parents wont let me get any other piercings that my ears pierced once. So thats my first delema, I cant let my parents know which means I have to do it at home. Second, I have no idea what to pierce it with. My friends say a safety pin, but you all say no. The earring stud just isn't sanitary, as for the needle idk where to get that special kind of needle. And as you have said, it needs to be sanitary. My third problem is, I was on another website that said that I shouldn't go swimming, take a shower, or do many physical activities. How much of this is true, and what parts should I follow? My last question is, is there any place that I can go with out an adult that is sanitary and will be able to do it for me? Or is there some where I can go that if it gets infected will be able to help me get rid of the infection? And if it does get infected, is the only thing I have to do is pull out the earring and keep it clean till it heals? Or do I need meds? Well I hope you all can help me, I'm really lost on this one. I pierced my belly button w/ a saftey pin last night, and i took it out to put the ring in and it closed up immediatly. it didnt even bleed. so I would say to leave it in for a while, between a couple of days to a couple weeks. If your'egoing to pierce yourself, here's a step my step guide Supplies needed: saftey pin, paper clip, ice Step one: Make sure that everything is sterile and that the saftey pin is clean Step two: Put ice on you're belly button so that it is numb Step three: use the paper clip to hold up the skin like a clamp Step four: Push the saftey pin through the skin, if it's numb enough it shouldn't hurt. Step five: make sure that you clean the area of your peircing Note: Be sure to leave the saftey pin in for a couple days to that it doesnt close up when you put in the jewlery and be sure to clean it three times a day with a good solution.

I wouldn't use a saefty pin. If you, you had better keep it in alchohol for acouple of minutes, and rub it, then wash it off with water, then again, but it back in the cup of alchohol (Made for this kind of thing, like earring alchohol) and then push it in your belly as quickly as you can. Make sure you exale, or else it will hurt even more. As of knowing if it would hurt or not, I would say no, if you have strong abs, and yes if you arn't used to piercing yourself. I know this, because I pierce my ears all the time, all by myself! If you want to know the best way to piercing your belly button, I would say get a sewing needle. The sewing needle doesn't hurt as much (I know) because the sewing needle has a longer handle. It has more grip, and instead of starting off really big as the point, it starts off really small and gets big. DO NOT USE A SAFETY PIN! That is the WORST idea ever, I have already pierced my belly button, it worked out fine!! :D But, my mom said I had to take it out :( Becuase my mom thinks that I might get cancer, which is a possibility, you might get cancer. If I were you, I would only do it if I were 13-14 years of age, and I would go to a professional.. with your teddy bear for comfort. :) I suggest NOT doing your belly button by yourself, only because you don't have a clamp, and if you do (Like if you buy a set) then you should go see a doctor and see if it's okay to do this. For Jen & others - It will take approxomatly 4-5 months to keep the belly button ring in. Yes, RIGHT AFTER you pierce it, you may put a real belly button in instead of the sewing needle. but don't take out the belly button ring for 4-5 months. K? If you want more advice, I advise you to go somewhere where they actually do belly button piercings. Get your parents to drive you, unless you can drive, And ask for advice from either someone you meet there, or someone who works there. :D Toodles!

OK. here are my experiences. First, I tried it with a safety pin. It doesn't seem smart to me to use it anyway- because when you put the actual belly button ring, IT'S A LOT BIGGER THEN THE SAFETY PIN HOLE. Not figuring this out until now, I tried piercing with a GOLD stud earring (gold doesn't form infections) but it wouldn't go through. Of course, I numbed it with ice to stop some of the pain. One of my friends said that using ice actually hardens the skin- and you need some numbing stuff (too bad i don't remember what it's called) but you can buy it online. FYI, I didn't bleed at all- But don't use a safety pin- because it ISN'T the right kind of metal. Using the wrong kind of metal causes infections. I eventually gave up on doing it myself, that I'm getting it done professionally next week (i hope.) If I can't do that, then I'm getting a piercing needle.

all right i'm13 and i have a friend that pierced her bb and its fine so i asked her to do mine and she said no so i did it my self and i didn't numb it or anything i couldn't get it done perfessonally beacuse my parents would get mad a lil tip for if u pierce it ur self get a SHARP needle or safety pin i think it's ok to use a safety pin beacuse its gunna come out but u have to sterilize it or it will infect it and go like on sites that show belly button rings on someone and figure out where to pierce it and go in the shower or something and its ur choice if u do it fast or slow beacuse if u numb it w/ ice it won't hurt much or not at all but u might wanna do it fast i did mine slow beacuse im not gutsy bye mine came out fine

i actually peirce belly buttons ...and other body parts i sterolize all the needles and i numb the place where they want it to be peirced with ice for 40 mins then i take a pair of tongs mark where they want me to peirce it and ram a thick sewing needle threw, sounds brutile but its what you need to do, once you have comletly peirced the skin quickly put in the barbell or what ev u like or want((i recamend barbells because they are easier to work with)) MAKE SURE YOU CLEAN EVERY THING BEFORE AND AFTER THE PEIRCING!! and the leading thing for most of thoose infections is because either the needle or earing isn't sterol or the person has an allergie to the metal. normally the peircing is a little infected the first couple days. so no worries i hope i helped some one out before they made any big decisions. also if you live in CT U>S>A and i will peirce it for u email me at tlc101@sbcglobal.net and i'llgive u the info

well i did my own 3 times..and the first time it hurt a little bit because i used a safety pin and i left it in for a long time...the second time i did it i was really drunk and one of my friends did it for me and she was drunk too....so it didn't turn out that great. but the third time i did it i used a clamp and a hollow needle that was a 14 gauge. so it worked alot better, it got a lil red so i started putting neosporin and triple-antibiotic cream on it and it turned out great.. i get alot of compliments and everyone is asking me to do theirs for them... but if u do pierce it yourself be sure to be safe and please make sure everything is sterile..but my best advise it to go to a pro so that u know it will turn out right and make sure u take care of it. i know this one girl, she did hers herself and she didnt take care of it and it ripped out and she has a nasty and digusting scar from it...soo just be careful.

PEOPLE PEOPLE PEOPLE chill with the safety pins thats stupid either get it done professional or get a 14 gauge needle grab the skin pull it out put the needle through move it up and down to get it loose then take it out and put the ring in ...my needle was a little smaller 16 gauge so i had to stretch mine a bit but if your parents are gonna kill you don't do it!!!!! be careful sanitize everything and clean it twice a day with antibacterial soap and if it gets crusty stuff..thats normal don't freak out to loosen it put warm water mixed with ROCK salt (non iodide) in a cup and suction in to your belly around the navel just please be careful and if it gets infected don't put neosporin on it it messed mine up but if it does get infected keep cleaning it and have your parents take you to a doctor or take it out HAPPY PIERCING!!! PS: pain level 1-10 10 being the worst..id say its about a 4-6 depending on who u r oh and don't put ice on it it makes it swell and will block the hole and the ring will be harder to go through.....well thats about it anymore questions email me at charmed_one_cw112@hotmail.com and on the subject put belly piercings..tell me how it goes good luck

First off, DO NOT PIERCE YOURSELF, unless you're an actual piercer, or if you want a disgusting infection. Don't listen to people who said that their's went alright, it doesn't mean that you're gonna be okay. Second off, go to a REPUTABLE PIERCER, make sure they have an autoclave, clean environment, they change gloves every time they touch a different object, and try and get it done with INTERNALLY THREADED jewelery, NOT externally threaded. Third off, using a safety pin is extremely disgusting. You probably found one laying around the house, you have no idea where it could've been, even if you just opened it from a new package. It may even have traces of rust on it, so have fun getting tetanus. Also keep in mind that safety pins aren't as sharp as standard piercing needles, so it'd probably be even more painful, and it would take more time to heal. Also, safety pins aren't a good gauge to get pierced at. Fourth off, you've probably never pierced anyone else's NAVEL, so you have barely or no experience in piercing. There was a story before of a girl attempting to pierce her navel by herself, and she pierced her stomach instead. Real smart. Don't complain if your piercing turns out crooked, shallow, or too deep, it's your own fault for not getting it professionally done. Fifth off, no matter how long you dunk it in boiling water or antiseptic or whatever, it WON'T be clean. To COMPLETELY sterilize it, it must come from a sterile packaging OR an autoclave. In conclusion, I just wanted to warn you about the dangers of self-piercing. It's extremely stupid to do so, and i advise you to see a trained professional, no matter how expensive it will be, it'll most definitely be worth it.

I want to do mine so bad. My mom says that I can get it done whenever I want But I am scared that if I go to get it professionally done that i will chicken out when I get there and I will look like a fool I don't really want to go out and buy all this crap to do it properly I have tried several times with a safety pin but had to stop because it hurt to much I would say go and get it done by someone else but.. who am i kidding? I will never even do that!! Your choice is ; 1) use a safety pin, deal with the pain while doing it and take the chance of getting infected and it hurting a lot more or 2)go and get it done, waist your money and chicken out while you are there and have everyone look at you funny. It's definitely up to you though But if you do it yourself your parents would probably get mad at you because you can either tell them you did it yourself and they will go on about that not being safe or do it yourself and have it get infected (they might want to go to the place you got it done to ask them if it will still be fine and then you are screwed when you don't know what to say where you got it done) or Go and get it done professionally with your parents permission and have it not get infected!!! GOOD LUCK!

hiya... i pierced mi belly button yesterdai wif a needle coz mi m8 dne it nd it turned out excellent i kept da needle in during skwl nd mi mum iz gettin me a belly bar!! i pierced mi belly nd diz iz ow.. i clmaped mi skin nd pulled it out nd den i pushed the needle throw nd left it in nd put plasters at da end i suggest dat if u pierce ya belly button u shudnt use ice bcoz i used ice nd i didnt gt very far but wen i ddidnt use ice it worked i fink the ice makes it worse!!!! ne way ime nt sure if da belly bar will fit in mi belly bcoz da needle i useed i fink it mite b 2 small nd iam reli worried in case it gets infected..:( nd 1 mre fing alot of pplz r sayin does it hurt nd da answer 2 dat iz NO! except frm wen da needle iz nearly 2 da end den it hurtz!!! hope u take mi advice but b careful!! luv ya all alex xx BTW DONT USE A SAFTY PIN!

if you pierce your belly button with a safety pin it doesn't mean you will get an infection ,its just that you are more prone to getting an infection doing it yourself. make sure you put the safety pin in some boiling hot water with antiseptic in the water, put the pin through your naval WET there for it will clean your naval as it goes through. leave the safety pin in you for 3-4 days and then put a belly ring in. make sure its a ring and not a bar because bars make the heeling process longer trust me i tried it and a ring is much faster and less painful. :-)oh yes and one more thing put ice on you belly for at least half an hour before to numb it!! hope this has helped.

Last night I pierced my own belly button, it took me an hour and a half to do it and I also had to do it three times, the first time it was in the wrong spot, the next time I couldn�t get the ring through so I just pushed the ring through by itself, I then went to put a belly button ring in today and the holes closed up and now my belly button is swollen and bruised, it wasn�t bad at all to pierce it myself it actually didn�t hurt at all but I did it with a sewing needle which is way to small, I am going to repierce it when it heals back up again but I am going to go to the vets place and get a needle from there because it is hollow and will also be close to 14 gauges which is how big a belly button ring is. So my suggestion is to not pierce it with a sewing needle unless it is 14 gauges and using a safety pin on your belly button does not seem safe at all, so I think you should either get it done professionally but if not get a hollow needle from the veterinarian or from a hospital and do it.

I just got mine done professionally today. So much better than doing it yourself. I did it once with a sewing needle and it took me forever to get the pin through. Plus if the needles too small ur not gonna get a belly ring/bar through it. If you DO DECIDE TO: TAKE ADVIL AND HOUR BEFORE OR LIKE 30 MIN. Clean the area with peroxide and rubbing alcohol. My girl used this vitamin a&*D cream for lubricant idk what thats about. Arch your back a bit so your skin is tight and pinch a little bit of skin. USE ICE TO NUMB IT. Try to do it fast and accurate (the non toxic felt tip marker is a good idea). Use a thick enough needle so u can get a ring through if u cant get a bar through use a lil hoop earing the ones that make a full circle and eventually you'll be able to twist in into the big part of the hoop (thats how i gaged my ears). Clean it with Dial Antibacterial soap 2 to 3 times a day. Salt water can speed up healing... and if you mess up and dont get it and decide ur just not gonna finish... its gonna HURT the next day! Like a bruise but it'll go away in a few days... GOOD LUCK. Keep it Clean. Go professional (from experience)

ok hey ppl, i just got done doing mine adn.....oh my god, with a safety pin to! what ever shall i do? he he... look ppl, do my own piercings ALL the time...i have about...o say 20 right now, but i believe if u sterilize everything EXTREMELY (extremely) well, u wil b ok...now i have some surgical soap and thats what i use to clean all of my piercings and i believe it works pretty well, but i dont no what to say for the rest of you because u probably will not be able to get this soap (doctors only, but i stole it...) just as long as ur safe and caucious, and clean everything very often, i think u should b ok...hope this helps some body...just remember....CLEAN IT like about 4-5 times A DAY! OR IT WILLLLLLL ET INFECTED!

i pierced my own ear twice i used a sewing needle and thread i left the tread in and moved it around so it wouldn't heal to my ear, but i realize now the thread leaves the hole too small and it hurts to get the earring in after. i would suggest putting it in right away. then just leave it in till it heals i put fruit behind the lobe to make it easier to push the needle through. (i don't know how that would work with a belly button tho) but make sure to use a good metal. the ones you find at claire's(sensitives) is good but the best is gold. to sterilize i used hydrogen peroxide, but the best is rubbing alcohol. hydrogen peroxide is good for healing the piercing though. its stuff any family with kids should probably have anyway. use ice to numb it. if you do it enough you can't even feel it at all. STERILIZE EVERYTHING. the ice, the needle, the earring, whatever your using to help pierce, your hands, the flesh your about to pierce, the flesh around where your about to pierce, then the piercing after its been pierced. its always a good idea to treat it with rubbing alcohol or hydrogen peroxide at least once

hi guys =] well i pierced my belly button last night && i used one of those kinda thin sewing like needles with the little ball on the end. i suggest you don't do this only because i'm going to have to leave it in for MONTHS so that i can take the needle out && the hole wont seal up as soon as i do. after a few months, my plan is to take the needle out then put a safety pin (well sterilized of course) in the hole (that way it might HOPEFULLY be easier.. but i'm not sure). but i am going to go to a pro piercing place, like kaleidoscope (sp?) && ask them what they think i should do. so i suggest that if you do it by yourself, you still go ask someone who knows what they are doing if you did it right. && i pierced my nose by myself too && it never got infected, all i did was wash it two times a day with antibacterial soap && occasionally put neosporin on it =] i pretty much know what i'm doing with the cleansing because i have both ear lobes pierced, the cartilage of my top left ear, and my nose pierced.. one of my friends said that you can buy the ear care solution stuff at walmart && use it too, but don't overwarsh because it can get dryed out and that's not good =]. if you need any help, or even if you have a couple suggestions for ME, which i could use =], then feel free to get ahold of me on myspace (www.myspace.com/mel_d51282), YIM (mel_d51282), or email which is mel_d51282@yahoo.com . K well my friend Ashley and I pierced our belly buttons our selves. She did her own and she did mine. We didnt freeze cuz that just brings all the blood to the area, plus it would take forever to freeze completely. It didn't hurt that much. We used a safety pin. The hole that the safety pin makes is really small so you have to keep it in for a week or longer stretching it in a circular motion to get the hole big enough for a 14G. the piercing pain is just the beginning. IT HURT SO BAD for the week i had it in. The shower is heaven. Clean it lots or else it will get all nasty. Mine was infected for about 2 weeks. But now its perfect and i love it. Be brave girls and JUST DO IT! lol Pce <3

I don't see what's the big deal about doing it yourself! I'm 12, I got an 18g needle and jabbed it through! I sat there for a second and then put a 16g barbell in it. Its been 2 weeks. now and IT DON'T HURT AT ALL! So, as long as you don't do it with a safety pen then it should be fine! I used the "Claire's" ear peircing cleaner and mine hasn't gottin infected yet so, go for it and I did it slow! oh and hold the skin, jab the needle and NEVER let go of the skin or you'll never get the earring back thru! and fyi i'm not the skinniest person in the world so don't worry bout it! ok well i'm a proffetional piercer and my advice to all of you on this site is if you want to pierce your belly i suggest using a knitting nettel all you have to do is sharpen it with a knife and push it through fast because if you do it to slow then it wont work also a good idea for a clamp u don't have is use a fake earing those things will skrunch the skin up so you can stick it through also the best way of taking care of it when your done is just putting rubbing alcohal or pure alcohal that should work fine but still the best idea and u know it will always be is to just go to a proffetional but what i told you will most likly work just as well only it will hert a hell of alot more - just do it!!

I'm 14 now. I've been really interested in piercings for a while. I first pierced my own ear, by accident, when I was 10ish. Since then I've pierced my own ears about 10 times, most of which have closed up, but I have 9 holes left all together. A while ago I considered getting my belly butonn pierced and finally planned on doing it. I decied not to though, figuring it would look bad on my not so flat stomach. A few days ago I was at the mall and was gonna get my cartilage pierced but chickened out. I then decided I wanted to get my nose pireced and talking my mom into it. Sometimes I get desires to pierce something, which I did tonight. I didn't want to do my nose though, since I'm not very knowledgeable on that piercing, and its an obvious scar if you mess i.t up. I finally decided to do my belly button, its not even a piercing I particularly wanted but I did it just for the hell of it. NAVEL PIERCING INSTRUCTIONS: First, I took the thickest needle I could find from my moms sewing kit. I then found a large safety pin since I don't have a ring yet. I definity would recommend buying a navel ring if you have access to one. I washed my hands in hot water, put on rubber gloves, and got all my supplies ready. I washed the needle and safety pin in hot water and then rubbed them with rubbing alcohol. I used a sharpie to mark the spot, this took me a while cause I'm not exactly sure it should go, but I at least made sure it was centered. I then numbed the area with ice for abooutut 15 minuestes until I couldn't feal anything. I then rubbed the area with rubbing alcohol and began. I starting sticking the needle in as hard as I could but I couldn't get it to go in. After a minute or so it started going in. It went most of the way through, but I had trouble getting it out the bottom. The couple mm were definitely the hardest and most painful. It probably took about 10 minutes to get it all the way through, by the end the numbness had worn off. On a scale of 1-10 1 being no pain and 10 being a lot, I would say it was about a 6 or 7, this is the piercing itself. It was more soreness and achine than sharp pain, though. I put rubbing alcohol on it and then numbed it with ice for the next half hour or so. I finally decided to put the safety pin in. It took a bit of effort to get the needle out. At first In couldn't get the safety pin in, but with a little push it went through fairly easily. Once again it was very difficult getting it throught the last layer. Once I put it in, the pain was pretty for a while, but I think that was mostly from moving and touching it. Once I laid down, it stopped hurting at all. I ordered a couple belly button rings online and got express delivery so I'm hoping I'll be able to take the safet pin out within a few days. Make sure the jewelry initially is surgical steel 316LV or some letters like that(no idea what this means) or titanium or nobium. NOT silver. I read up on cleaning and aftercare and I'm hoping for the best. Now, about 3+ hours after doing it, it doesn't hurt at all when I don't move and isnt red or swolen or bruised. There was the tiniest bit of bleeding at the puncture but that's all. While I'd recommend going to a professional if possible, the important thing is to just be smart and use common sense. Do your research, make sure everythings sterile, use the best possible matreials. Sorry this is so long, but attention to details when doing something like this. i just pierced mine last night and im so scared but this is what i did.. i got the sewing needle as clean as i could, then i held ice on it for like five minutes and i just kinda shoved it in. it hurt for a few seconds but thats all. i had a little trouble getting it threw the bottom layer of skin cuz i went threw the top. and for some reason i took out the needle but couldnt get it back threw cuz it hurt so i held ice on it again and cleaned the needle and re did it. today it only hurts if something is pushing up against it. idk if i did it good or wrong but its what i did and i cant change it now. do you think ill get infected or anything? and how long was i supposed to leave in the needle i pierced it w/?

i think you really should get a professional to do it. but, if you're like me, and cant see a pro then follow these tips BEFORE YOU PIERCE: 1. Buy a peircing kit. It makes everything alot easier and safer. ((a great site to buy a kit is http://www.mspiercing.com/Group/Piercing-tools-19.aspx they have a large variety of tools for affordable prices ;) )) 2. make sure everything is clean. stomach infections can be very dangerous! so to help avoid them, cleaning is best. 3. if you dont think you are able to shove a needle through your skin fast enough, have a trust worthy friend help. That way, they can keep you relaxed and put the needle through for you. To pierce: 1. Clean the site area ((where your piercing is going to be)) 2. Using a nice felt-tip marker, put a mark to direct where the needle will be going in, and comming out. 3. when you're ready, clamp the skin where the needle is going in. 4. put the needle through the clamp from your first mark to the next. (( it's better if you do this as fast as possible. it lessens the pain and makes it alot easier! but still dont do it too fast and miss your target.)) 5. leave the needle in for a minute then replace the needle with your chosen ring. 6. make sure you clean around where you pierced! AFTER: 1. clean the piercing once a day. dont rotate it too much or you could hurt the skin. 2. avoid touching the piercing, except when cleaning, for atleast 6 weeks. 3. for the first few weeks it might look a little red and swolen. for the most part this is normal. also, a yellow substance might come from the hole, this is also normal. it might start to get on the ring, but be carefull getting it off, you could infect the spot. 4. if the piercing starts to turn black, or dark colors, and hurts alot, you should remove the ring. well, i did my own with a safety pin in the 7th grade. me and my bestfriend did it together...and we numbed it with ice for three hours. mine turned out great, and did get infected for a week or so, but it went away. i was in the shower and accidently rippd the safety pin with my louffa. my ex bestfriends got extremly infected and she ended up taking it out instead of properly treating it. She has hers pierced again, professionaly this time..and i still have mine. its perfectly fine. im also getting my inverse navel done in two days. im pretty scared hearing about how it hurts and all that, and im going to get extremly nervous, but let me tell you. i bet it doesnt hurt anywhere near as bad as an industrial hurts. reallllllllllly bad. lata

Hey guys.. i just pierced my bellybutton exactly a week ago.i used a saftey pin and with the help of my friend..we shoved it thru. it takes 20-30 mins. the first 3 days it looked great and it wasnt scabbing at all and wen i put DIAL SOAP on it in the shower it could slide up and down easily. the 4th day i noticed it was turning pink at the top. and from then on to now it is very soar and pink and the top and from time to time white stuff comes out (just a little) and let me tell u..wen u do it urself it hurts like a b****. wen u get it professionally done its just like a 2 second pain. i already hav 7 piercings so my mom wouldnt let me do another one..this was my only choice..to do it myself. i am going to leave it in for probably another month..cleaning it regularly. and wen i feel it is ready i will put a earing in..then a lil while later i will put a 14g bellybutton ring in. if it still is soar and looks infected by a month then ill take it out.. if u guys have any questions my email is isabellacan4@yahoo.com. thnks :)

Don't pierce it at home unless you're really experienced with body mods! Even with the kits, it's really hard to create a properly sterile environment at home. It's definitely worth it to go to a professional - getting an infection really sucks, and badly placed jewelry is also a pain.

I peirced my own belly button and it turned out fine. now all my friends want me to do it to them. I did it with a safty pin and left it in for a year. It got infected once so I put some neosporen on it and it went away the next day! and no IT DOSENT HURT TO DO IT WITH A SAFTY PIN! JUST DO IT FAST!!!

i just pierced mine last nite. it didnt hurt. but i did it wrong ! its not even in deep. its like, barely there, but this way, it wont get infected. it didnt hurt. i just did it fast. i used a pointy stud from my ear that i got pierced 2 weeks ago. try that.

unless ur into all those disgusting infections, then go ahead and pierce ur self... but if u want a good piercing that wont get infected, then do ur research and find a GOOD, REPUTABLE place thats CLEAN... if its not clean, then leave, gettin an infection is not pretty and hurts REALLY bad

my friend is planning to do mine friday, she is going to sterilise everything and use a sharp thick needle. she will then quickly put a belly bar in, do you think this would work?

i suggest you numb it with ice first becuase if you dont it will hurt really bad..yes its ok to use a bar when u first get it pierced to keala...no dont use a safety pin if anything use a sterilized sewing needle

u guys dont pierce ur bb with a saftey pin or a sewing needle its not the right kind of metal and its very bad for the inside of u. get a piercing needle. i have mine professionally done and i suggest u do this 2 cuz juss because u pierced it right doesnt mean that it wont get infected it usually depends on how well u take care of it after so juss cuz its not infected the next day doesnt mean it wont still get infected. but i still suggest u get it professionally done because if u do it wrong and it leaves a scar u wont be able 2 get it professionally done because its scar tissue.

I tried 2 pierce my belly button last night but it didn't't work at all. it hurt a lot n started 2 bleed so i stopped. my sister told me 2 bend the needle but that didn't't work either. any ideas how i can pierce my belly button w/o the pain n bleeding?

I've pierced my bellybutton twice (standard and inverse). They both turned out great, you jsut have to know what your doing. Don't use a safety pin, it's too small and most likely will get infected. Get an industrial needle (used for piercings) if at all possible. Find someone who's 18 to go to a professional piercing place or a doctor and get one, or if you have to steal your parents credit card and order one (it's better than getting an infection, belive me) make sure you clean everything and have good jewelry, AND TAKE CARE OF IT AFTER YOU PIERCE IT!!!! (sea salt soaks and neosporin work great)

Well me and my friend r doing ours tom. and everything is steralized and ready to go....we thought it out for 2 months. were using gloves and neosporin and boiling the needles and all that clean jazz. it'll hopefully work out okay and i recommend no safety pins...thats kind of odd... becca

heyyy guys i just got finished peircing my belly button like 2 days ago with a sewing needle and it looks really good!! its not infected or anything but i dont know how long i should keep the needle in before i put an earing in or how i should clean it anybody have any advice?? it would help a bunch ~thanks!

hey ive been lookin on a site and u can pik up a 14g needle wich is the average belly button size 4 1:30 or sumin! wich is gd safer and cleaner the addy is ...... http://www.mrpiercing.com go on it! i realy want it dun and the ppl tht keep seyin get it profesionaly we wuldnt b doin it ourselves if we were alowed or if we had muney lol!

umm... i peirced mine with a safety pin than tried to put the barbell in..... and the need was too small... so the best thing to do is use a hollow needle meant for piercing.... it works great...... and mine didnt hurt...... and i didnt use ice or anything...

hi guys it doesn't hurt the first time i pierced my own BB i was only 10 but i had to take it out for school I'm now 14 and ive had my BB pierced 8 times i just re-pierced it 5 Min's ago its harder when its been pierced b4 da skin is harder so my advice is dont pierce it urself it hurts your hands more than it hurts ur bb i dont go and get anything pierced pro i have my eyebrow,Monroe,nose and BB pierced and ive piered them all myself im going to get my tongue piered next week pro is it scarey?honestley i dont know why but piercing just doesnt hurt me!!!
