The best thing to do would be to learn what to expect when your dog is having pups so you can identify when she needs help and know what to do. The best site I have found for learning this is http://www.hilltopanimalhospital.com/reproduction.htm
Good luck! Tanisha stanishas@aol.com

Dear Immortal;
I think if you do not have money you should not have a pet. A pet is not just and another animal it is your best friends, and part of your family. You have to take care of a pet like if it was a child. When a child gets sick you bring it to the Dr and that goes the same for a pet it needs check upsand during the pregnancy it should see the vet and especially after it. If there are any complications during the vet spend the money or ask to borrow the money get the dog to the vet because you are putting here life and the puppies lives at risk.

I have a boxer that just had 9 puppies.  I never took her to the vet before or after the birth and she and the puppies are doing great.  I know how it feels to not have the money to take tour baby to the doctor.  I researched dog birth on the Internet as much as possible.  I tried to find out as much as possible before the delivery day and we did great.  A dog instinct will kick in and she will know what to do.

All you people who think that only people
that should have pets, are people with money,
are most likely the ones who throw dogs and cats out, or have never been down on your luck. Vets aren't like free clinics, medicare
or such. Any one who has a pet knows the only breaks you get are on spay, but with a child there is welfare and many other ways
to get help. I have many pets and cannot always afford a vet and no I do not go to the Dr. myself. My pets are happy and healthy
Any one who cares enough about their pet to
ask for help is looking for help not someone to tell them they shouldn't have a pet. They are the ones that don't need pets. You don't seem to have much compassion for your fellow man how could you for a pet.

I think you should save up for a litter of puppies before the birth. Try reading up on puppy care and expenses before breeding your dog. How about trying to read the 'Ultimate Dog Encyclopedia? It is very helpful and I bought it because I'm in love with dogs!

I agree. My pet is very important to me and i love her very much, but i don't always have the money for the vet nor for myself to go to the doctor. My mini pincher is gonna give birth in a couple of months and i asked the vet in a phone call i made if i needed to bring her in and the vet said no that was a waste of time and money. said a dog unlike humans knew more about handling those situations being the first or the last. i would say just show your dog love and let her know your trying to help and that you love her and not trying to hurt her. forget about all the cruel remarks that were made. they don't deserve pets.

I did some research on the internet on dogs giving birth plus I asked a few people that I know who breed there dogs and my vet also told me what to do she said not to worry that most animals know what to do and if I thought she was having problems to call her and she would tell me what to do. I grew up on a farm so I have helped deliver different animals before but it has been a while, I don't think just because a person doesn't have money for a vet that they should not have animals, because if that was the case that only people who have money for a vet should have animals then alot of animals would be put to sleep and to me that is just so wrong when they could be with a family that loves them.

I think that breed of the dog is important, and the breed of the male she was bred to is also important. Some breeds need special things checked out like water puppies, etc. also if some problem occurs you can take the dog to an emergency vet office and most will work with you on a small payment plan or work off the debt. It isnt the best solution but if it can save your dogs life and her puppies it is all worth it.

Pets are wonderful to have, they give you unconditional love and are great companions. I have four and they go to the doctor MAYBE one time a year, and that is just for rabies shot. The only time I recomend taking your dog to the vet is in an emergency. Mine just had 10 pups. It was her first litter and she did beautifully!!! Everyone is healthy and happy and we had no vet visit (prior or post) whelping. I can afford to have dogs, which cost me 39 dollars a month in food, but I cannot afford a vet which costs me 119 dollars a visit for even one dog.  If your dog is pregnant also suggest research on the internet so she gets good care as well as the pups!! (I also watched Animal Planet 24/7 to learn as much as I could)

my girl had pups last week, it was her first litter and she has 13 babies. people have been telling me take her to the vet if she breaks for more than 2 hours. she was tired!! she had 2 three hour breaks between pups. if you wont go to a vet at least use your common sense, read as much as possible and ring the vet for advise! they are willing to help over the phone.

My baby just had her first litter.  She had 7 pups and they are all doing so well.  I came here looking for a little bit of an incite into my dog and her litter.  I myself cannot afford a vet at the moment but as soon as I get paid she will be going there to make sure everything is all right.  I don't think you people should be paying out on people who can't afford a vet at the moment.  Like us you haven't seen our bank accounts or financial situation.  If you can't be nice please don't offer advise.

.... sigh. Wow, some people are rude. :) Not that this is news to me, or you I am sure. Dogs generally do not need a vet when giving birth. Funny as it seems, neither do humans by the way. Only thing a hospitol does is makes sure everything went smooth, other than that, you can healthily give birth in your living room if you want. Dogs, no matter how domesticated they are or seem, they are still able to give birth and respond to their birth with the instincts they have. My mom bread cats when i was growing up, I've also helped give birth to many of the kittens. I bet half the people here that flame have never had to deal with it before, or don't mind speding the $600+ to let the vet give their pet a private room, mineral water, doggy shampoo that smells like roses... my point is that a vet gives birth to dogs in much the same way as our hospitols do for us. Keeping a close eye on the dog and the puppies.

I have 3dogs i love each one.one had puppies, with no problems the but two week later she had blood coming out so i took her to the vet. With $50.00 they gave her a x-ray med.and the vet looked at her.If i would have took her before i would have spent a lot more money. Some vet will let you take the dog or cat and you can pay weekly.try to call the vet first.Tell him or her what is wrong, they love the them that is why they have that job.If they don't want to help call another vet.And some people do love pet's but ,some times thing are hard. Some people should not say any thing if they don't have anything good to say they should not say anything at all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Having a dog is an amazing part of life, just like having children... if we all went to the doctor for everything they would be over booked.  My answer is do research and seeing as you have access to the computer, you have the best resource right in front of you.  Now word to the wise... if you are in the mid of the birth and you think things are not good... call the vet, he/she would rather trouble shoot on the phone at 12:00pm then preform a c-section at 2:00 in the morning.  Seeing a puppy born is a miracle of life and everyone should experience it.... the rich, poor, old and young.  Keep in mind, there were dogs when there were no vets. :)

Hello,

Our cockapoo had her puppies at home and she did fine. We were advised to wipe away the mucus from the mouth and nose of the puppy, if her 'Motherly instincts' didn't kick in right away. After that, lay the puppy by mother and she would do the rest.

The mother did get, what the Vet called 'Milk fever' and we needed to keep the puppies from feeding off her. And we spoon fed the puppies. All lived and grew up just fine.

I understand how you feerl. Some of these jerks in here thinks everyone is made of money. I had enough, money to ge to the vet, but it was a family thing. Her instincts will kick in and she will do fine. To help her out you can get a hot, damp town and put it on her stomache and carfully place the puppies on a warm cloth next to the mother. I've been through this twice, you will do fine. :)

P.S-- I know the crisis is over, but just in case if someone else needs the advice :)

If everyone that gave a "holier than thou" response to this person is so perfect, then why are you even on this site? Excuse me, but it's supposed to be OK to ask for help and ask questions. If you don't have any questions, why are you reading this FAQ section?

If i am correct this is suppose to be about people who have questions and helpful people who have answers.  I dont think anyone asked if anyone else thought they should own a dog b/c of money or not.  half of the vets charge you for things that you dont need or do something as easy as you can do.  If you dont have the answer to the question then dont answer or say you have no idea.  The topic was delivering puppies not do you think i should own a dog b/c i am not a millionaire

I DON'T AGREE WITH YOUR OPINIONS ON VETERINARY SURGEONS, THEY HELP ANIMALS IN EMERGENCIES ALL THE TIME. I THINK IF A DOG IS GIVING BIRTH AND SOMETHING SERIOUS OCCURS REGARDING THE PUPPIES HEALTH YOU SHOULD CONTACT THE VETS IMMEDIATELY HOWEVER, IF YOU ARE REALLY AGAINST THE IDEA OF CONTACTING A VET YOU COULD ALWAYS RESEARCH INTO THE BIRTH OF DOGS EXTENSIVELY BEFORE DECIDING TO LET YOUR DOGS HAVE PUPS, THEREFOR IF ANY THING SERIOUS HAPPENS YOU MAY HAVE SOME EXPERIENCE IN HELPING EITHER THE MOTHER OR THE THE PUPPIES

I like the first response. Thank you for actually helping. I just have a few questions for those of you who insist on the vet... Do you take your kids to the Dr for each cold? Can you tell the difference between an allergy and a sinus infection? Is it a skinned knee or a ruptured patella? Birth is a nature event and has been going on for Centuries WITHOUT VETS!! Yes Vet help out in times of trouble, but how are we to know when the animal is in trouble and when it's doing what it's supposed to?

My lil dog just had pups and i didn't need to take her to the vet. The pups are doing just great its a dogs natural instinct to care for her young but if your dog is not caring and making sure they are nursing then YOU NEED to go to the vet. PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE YOUR DOG ALONE WHEN SHE IS IN LABOR!!!! Thanks

Yes, I agree people should be more compassionate with this problem.  People who have money forget about those without.  As with our children, I'm sure every pet owner here at the forum cares about their little friend enough to seek for help, and I'm sure they will spend every dime necessary to provide their little ones with the best care, just that sometimes u dont have the money!  But dont worry, instincts will kick in and ur litter should come out fine.  Just help with the birth process and make sure the place is roomy and sanitary.

You dont need a vet. My dog just gave birth today and i didnt even know it was pregnant. And everything was find and since we live in Ghana,West Africa we didnt go to any vet.In fact I have only taken my dogs(3 dogs) to the vet for a rabies shot. And when one of my dogs got sick with canine distemper and everyone thought it would die. I  treated it myself and im only 15. So far i havent been able to find any commercial dog food here so i give the dogs the local dishes .Just like everyone else in Kumasi,Ghana.I have more than just dogs. I have a pet patas monkey, a cat,2 rabbits and a goat all of which i feed regular human food and all of which have never been to the vetenarian .Im also planning to get the the patas monkey pregnant with one of my friends monkey so we can repopulate the area with monkey.Even though our money is not alot i try to make sure that i keep them up to the standards they have in america .All the my pets are the best fit in the neighborhood. But i aint a loser like WAKEUP and ANIMAL LOVER who have nuttin better to do than waste money that could be use to do somthing important like reduce deforestation in africa or save the primates or used to correct trade imbalance with the developed world, but instead they use it on sunglasess that blind there dogs and toture them with uncomfortable hot pants for dogs and share   thier bed with their dogs Michael Jackson style. Some ppl need to get lives.

My dachshund is giving birth right as i am writing this and i was comming to this site to find out some helpful info. not see a bunch of ignorant people bickering. i did not plan to breed my dog, she was hit up by a traveling salesman in my neighborhood. so i did not have the "planned" vet money and she seems to be doing good. the animal hospital site was very helpful and also to anyone else reading this, you can call your local vet and just tell them you have no money and ask for their suggestions on what to do about helping your dog through the process. most vets are very cooperative in this matter and if they are not, call someone else. SOMEONE WILL HELP YOU. i am very disappointed that all of you came here and instead of helping someone, you bickered about it. it sounds like none of you should have pets or children. maybe you should look into getting a heart.

Hey--my 2 year old Boxer is about to give birth anyday now, and I called her vet, and she told me, It wasnt necessary to bring her in, unless there were complications. She told me to let Nature take its course. My dog is up to date on her shots, healthy, and doing great. I have also took the time to read everything I could get my hands on, to help this wonderful occassion a success. Just take the time to go to the local library, call your vet-they will talk to you over the phone, use the internet, it is a great information source.

I am a serious animal lover who is disgusted at the price vet's charge for simple procedures and i am all up for people looking for other advice just incase something goes wrong. However, if my dog was in pain i would bring her straigh to the vet without delay. Stop being so hard on others and using the message board for a good old slagging match!!! you are an idiot if you think you don't need a vet. If you cared about your dog or her puppies you would want the absolute best care for them. YOU NEED A VET. It is your responsiblilty to care for them. Not only could the puppies die but the mother could too. You don't have to be rich to have pets but you need to have some to give them the best care. I am not rich but i can afford to take them to the vet.

I think people are naive if they think money grows on trees!!! I took in two stray dogs four years ago and my female had to have a ceasarian for her first litter! I stayed up with her through the night and comforted her until I thought that the labor was taking too long and there was no sign of progress. I did take her to the vet, they said that we needed to pay the fee before she could be taken care of!!!! So don't tell me that it is better to go to a vet! We did end up having to pay the fee and we are still paying it today. She has given birth to a little puppy tonight it is her second litter and she is doing fine but you self righteous people who think because we can't afford a vet we should not have animals need to back up and look at the big picture....I LOVE my dogs!!! and for you to say we shoudn'thave one because of the all mighty dollar ..... you make me sick!

I completely agree with rascal owning a pet is an honour yes but since when do you have to be rich to own one, I agree that you need to weigh the financial risks of breeding but telling somebody they shouldnt own pet because of financial strain is a bit harsh, also I am a dog lover I own two, and I love them very much but I would never compare them to my two children I have it just doesnt seem right to me.

I understand how it can be hard to find money to take your pets to the vet as it can often be expensive.  However I work at an animal shelter/vet clinic and I have seen too many dogs with no homes, and seen many put to sleep, to believe it is a good idea to let dogs have puppies.  Also I have recently seen a pregnant dog whose owners had no money suffer for three days with two dead puppies inside and almost die until we did emergency surgery on her.  Puppies are  expensive and can be dangerous to your own dog.  I believe you love your dog very much so PLEASE spay her after her litter and help the HUGE homeless animal problem that we have.

I know exactly how immortal is feeling. My baby is about to give birth (literally, tonight). I took my dog to the vet and all they did was take an x-ray and tell me she will have between 12-14 puppies. I think immortal is doing what I am doing and looking for a little last minute help. IMMORTAL: search google and type in how do I help my dog with birth. I found a few good sites. GOOD LUCK!

The richer people is the most pathetic people that I know. So immortal in the Internet you can found very good information. Don't lesten to those jerks. Vets overcharge and do more than they need to. It is more about money than the health of your dog for the vet. Dog birth is natural don't worry so much. Losing puppies is natural to and a fact of life. I'm not a liberal fool. It is very rare to need a vet if you have the proper info on it. Be serious an learn more. Those people don't even know what the vet is doing to there dogs.

if i was her midwife. i look at it as i have 2months to learn how to be a midwife for my dog and that is all she needs is me. and the pluss would be i saved alot of money on a vet.I think we need to somehow get medicare
for our pets too. The vets are a rip as far as i am concerned. People with out money love and somehow take care of there pets too.

I dont think this person is trying to get out of going to the vet, what I do think is that she wants to have her puppies at home where it is safe for the dog and family. Im sure if the family pet starts having issues a vet will be called and we all know vets if its an emergency they will be there most ricky tick. ma'am go ahead and read up and have your pups at the house and if u start getting bad signs from mom or pups call the vet.

I do not have the money to take my pets to the vet but if something happened you better believe they are my first priority.  For all you rich people who say that you shouldn't have pets if you don't have money are probably the ones with the undernurished pets because they're to busy going to the country club or the salon the even pay their pet the attention it needs.

dog birth doesnt require a vet, just someone who knows what they are doing and is a very capable person... dogs arent stupid, lend them a helping hand and they will do the rest... just make sure you have a clean, dry, and warm area...HEAT IS KEY! also, you cant be squimish...you might have to get the sack off of the puppies!

you guys all sound like children, and i feel like child even responding to this. But this is suppose to be somewhere where you can ask questions about you dog and get some helpful advise not be criticized for your decisions. I have a dog who is pregnant and is due soon I brought her to the vet only because she is under weight ( i just got her from the pound) and i wanted to make sure she was ok. Any other dog i have owned that had puppies i never brought to the vet and they where all fine. but as for the original question, theres not much you can do to prevent the puppies from dying except to make sure she is well fed and hydrated.

I have had boxers as members of my family for over 10 years now.  They are our "kids."  Our girls have had puppies before and as long as the mother remains healthy throughout the pregnancy, there is no reason to take her to the vet unless it's time for a regular appointment.  My VET told me this after I called her a million times asking about this and that the first time we were having puppies.  She said, "You've never had a baby before have you?  Everything she is going through is normal."  At three days old, the puppies go in for tail docking and dew claws...this is sufficient time for your vet to evaluate their health.  I panic about my girls, so one time I even had x-rays done to calm me down and assure me that she didn't have any more puppies in her. My vet assured me she didn't, but I wanted to see an x-ray. Bottom line, keep your boxer healthy all the time and there is no need to have a vet assist in the birth process unless problems arise during the actual births. No, I don't always have the money for a vet...but I love my girls so much that I'll forego something else to make sure they get there.  Just remember...no matter how much we think of our "dogs" as "kids,"  they are still dogs and have natural instincts.  Trust me...even the first time, they know what to do when giving birth.  I'm there more to keep an eye on her than anything else. The best thing you can help her with to keep the babies alive is make sure she attends to each one after it's born and keep her from laying on them. I even let her raise the puppies until they walk in our laundry room...it involved cleaning several times a day, but well worth it for healthy puppies. But regardless of where she is....remember she knows what she is doing! I've got a kid at home that is due today and I'm very ready to see my new "grandchildren!"

I have a dog and We love her so much!!  She is part of our family.  We order meds online and take great care of her without Vet visits.  I am sure if an emergency arose we would have no other choice.  She lives indoors with us and I helped her with her first litter.  All I did was research and helped her and took care of her as if she was one of us giving a home birth.  Nice room, Quite ans calm atmosphere, water and food by her side and just stroking and talking to her.  It all worked out fine!!  Don't worry about these people that say you don't deserve a pet.  As long as you have a good heart and good home for her that is all that matters.

I don't know why you would even have to out that up here people on her want help and not to be put down

With pets it's more about time and effort than money. Although money does help, the amount of time and effort a person puts in with their animal truely shows their compassion. Education is key, finding out any and everything you can to prepare yourself for any upcoming or existing situation. These days ignorance is unexscuseable. Resources are endless: internet, books, friends, pet store associates & trainers, breeders, vets, etc... Ignorance isn't not having money, it's not caring enough to ask a question, read a book, or do a little research. So if your here your on the right track.

seriously, you cant afford to take your pet in for an exam.... probably 40 or 50 bucks, but obviously you can afford internet access.....  and likely cable t.v.   if you dont want to spend money on your pets health issues, then it would likely be better for the pet to be with someone that will.  I suppose when some people got their pets perhaps they had a better financial situation and fell on hard times... with the hard times should your pet have to suffer?  find them a home that can afford a spay or neuter and proper health care.

i would like to say that i helped my dog deliver 16!!!!puppies in two days and let me tell you that all that you need to know is have the proper suplies to help your dog out. like some towles to help clean the puppies. the only why to get near you dogs puppies is for your dog to trust you . because they will bite you by thinking   that you are trying to hurt there children.have a nice warm place for your puppies and the dog to sleep. PLEASE DO NOT TAKE THE PUPPIES AWAY FROM ITS MOTHER THEY CAN DIE WITH OUT THERE MOTHER . at first the puppies eyes will be cloesed for two to three weeks. if you see that your dog is trying to suficate or  kill the pups take the puppies away from the mother and keep them in a safe plase.then give them back a few days later. if one of the puppies are not brething then hold your puppie in one hand and with the other rub its back gently the hold the pup with both hands put resuer by swinging your hands UP AND DOWN!! NOT LEFT TO RIGHT ONLY UP AND DOWN.

what the hell is the lady talking about if you were pregnant u would go to the doctors well its easier for us as humans to go to the doctors because we have insurance. duh!
and sometime people don't breed on purpose my dog was in my back yard and my moms dog came over next thing u know there stuck together! and i don't have money but don't worry the mother dog will do it all on her own and if she needs your assistance you will know want to do instantly, just make sure she doesn't sit on the pups cuz she will get tired of pushing and will suffocate the pups. if the bag doesn't break then you have to cut it open and clean the mucous out of its nose and eyes and mouth but usually the mom dog will bite through the sac and clean her pups on her own. just have plenty of blankets and wet warm rags handy and scissors to cut the sac if she doesn't get it broken in time. she will do fine and u will also good luck Melissa

just because someone doesn't have a lot of money does NOT mean that they don't deserve to have a pet. You know, lots of women choose to have their own children at home and skip the whole hospital scene. I personally would want to be at the hospital, and do have the money to get my dogs to the vet when needed, but not everyone has that. My Doggy is pregnant too, and due any day or hour. My dog is my baby. BUT MY DOG IS A DOG! If my dog was a wolf free in the nature she would give birth in some dirty lil nest that she build for herslf. Due to my love for her she has a way more comforting and cleaner environment during the birth of her puppies. Guess what...most puppies that are born too weak most likely will be diagnosed by a vet as "I don't think its gonna make it". Anyways...just be there for ur lil Mommie, talk to her, rub her, make her as comfortable as possible and watch. If you feel like Mommie has problems...just take her to the Vet for whatever it takes. The chances are 10  in a 100. This page has helped me a lot especially because Chihuahuas are very hard to breed. My dog isn't a Chiuhuahua but she explains and shows pictures of what tools u might need.http://blueboychihuahuas.com/breeding/whelping/sadie/birthofalitter.html

I run a non profit animal shelter because of people like you that feel that only people with money should have their pets and the low income people should be left with nothing... its just like childrens aid... do you think that they would go after some of you people who have money and take your kids away? NOT A CHANCE IN HELL...
AS for the question... i too am having similar problems with my doberman who is having puppies within the next few days. go to Google.ca and type in what to expect during puppy delivery it should help!!!

Hi,
I have a dog that i want to breed.
She is only quite small (about25-30cm long)
and i was wondering if that was to small.
By the way i think it is important to have access to a vet in case there is an emergency. but otherwise it should be good at home.

I just really want to say that any fool who thinks money to be a governing factor as to who can have a pet and who can't needs to look deep inside there almost empty skull an try and kick start  the last few brain cells they have managed to keep alive over the space of their worthless lives.  reality!  Republicans reality!

if i have a dog and a JOB that pays handsomely and one day i loose that job, have no money, should i put my dog down?

this is meant to be a place where people can share info!!!!....ANYWAY

I took my dog who is about to give birth to a litter to the cities best animal hospital.

the vet did not offer much in the way of advice!!!!
some people like to keep knowledge under lock and key!!!

this does EVERYONE a disservice.  in this case though, mainly our pets who we all love and care about.

If everybody thought about what it would cost to look after a pet would they have them. Children cost heaps but we do our best and i am sure everybody want what best for they animal friend but sometime as it is with children you just don't have the money. It would be a sad and lonely world if only rich people could have children and so as for pets. I do feel that it would be possible to have free animal care system if everybody who own a pet paid a little into a animal fund so that all animal had a chance of getting medical help.

I'm sure the question was what to do when you have a problem.  Although having a vet would be extremely convienent, if you can't afford it, you cant.  Word to those arguing over her having a vet, what if the dog getting pregnate was accidental?

Moving on, if you have a still born, you need to give it a few gentel tugs to help it out.  When the puppie first comes out, have a warm towle near buy.  Be sure to clear the "sap" around the puppies nose and mouth, so it can breath.  Many will say to let the mother do it, but if there instincs don't kick in, youll have to do it anyway, so just go ahead and do it.  Leave the rest on the puppies body to let the mommy lick off, this will promote breathing.  A childs wadding pool or a large refrigator box will be the cheapest thing to deliver them in.  Line the bottom with news paper, cardbored or plasitc.  Under neith it be sure to have some sheets, towels, or blankets for some cushioning and more comfort for mom.  Make sure you DONT cut the unbillical cords before they turn white.  If they still have blood running through them when you cut it, you must clamp it so the puppy dosn'tbleed out....but over all, just wait about 2 minutes after birth to cut it.  leave about an inch and a half on the puppy, and it will fall off over time.  Over all, keep them warm, and mom will keep them clean.  The only thing you really would need a vet for is if mom is still vomiting/having diareah, over 3 days after birth.  This means she can have a dead puppy in side or a placenta, which can cause fatal infections.  Let us know how it goes, and good luck!

I would first like to thank Tanisha for the great web site. My dog just had 4 healthy pups, and I learned alot from it. Second I dont agree with every one who is bagging on Immortal for not having the money to take his dog to the Vet. We are not all made of money, As long as your animals are healthy and shots are upto date I dont see a problem.
Immortal Check out the web site from Tanisha It is great and really helpful.  Good Luck

Gosh....leave the poor woman alone!  Some people don't have money for a vet...it doesn't make her a bad person or someone who doesn't love her animal.  I agree to research as much on the internet before the dog goes into labor. People are sooooo quick to judge others...I guess they are perfect!

I agree with Rascal; when people ask for help that IS a sign of love and caring. People who are swimming in dough should be thankful and not critical. Good luck immortal!

It is pretty sad that you people want to tell this person that they should not have a dog. I have contacted a few different vets because my dog is about to have puppies. Every one of them have told me that there is NO need to bring the dog in when she goes into labor. So what exactly is your point.... do you just enjoy being rude? You should be giving credit to this person, at least they care enough to reach out for the answers.

I agree with Rascal's answer. Some people "over-medicate" their pets (such as weirdos who give pets anti-depressants and such), which can be worse than not taking to them to the vet. So, basically shut up  Goodie two-shoes.

These responses are terrible, a bunch of spoiled rich brats I'm sure. Animals were alive much longer then vets. I'm sure God knew somewhat what he was doing when designing them. I'm sure your dog will be fine, try to keep her dry, and comfortable, give her water during the birth and move the live babies to the side after she has cleaned them.- Sometimes, babies die when the mother is pushing out another baby and walks in circles.

Immortal,
I've been down that road a time or two except I had money to take it to the vet & I read up on puppy birthing & when it was time to go to the vet it seemed like I knew more than they did. From then on I just did it myslef. Research really helps & then it's up to you to decide what needs done depending on how your dog is responding. Don't worry about the whole money thing & not needing a pet b/c some of the best dogs out there are the ones that have owners that give love...not toys & special trips to do there hair, nails, or buy puppy clothes..they just wanna have fun, play outside & be loved
