Can you sacrifcie a card if it already on it's way to the graveyard? My friend has a card called spawning pit, and whenever i destroy one of his creatures he "sacrifices it and put it on spawning pit.

Is this legal?

I think it is possable to do that because I use a mog fanatic and I sac him when he is delt damage like that .so what I suggest is you might want to get a sacrificeing Goblin deck with some Goblin Gernades. Good luck and I hope I answered your question.

Its never possible to do ANYTHING during any spell or ability resolution. Also, there is no such thing as "on the way to the graveyard". If a spell or ability resolves that kills a creature, its already to late to do anything. If a creature has been dealt lethal damage or has its toughness reduced to 0 or below, its already to late.

You can however do things in response to other effects. I think what your referring to is exactly what avenger was talking about. If 2 creatures meet in combat, and they deal damage to each other, it is possible to sacrifice your creature to spawning pit and have it deal its combat damage as well.

Yes, you can do that. Basically what happens, is this: You play a kill spell. In response to that spell, he sacrifices the target. Your spell still goes off of the stack, but it fizzles because there is no longer a target.
In the case of combat with a creature, he can sacrifice the creature after attackers and blockers are declared, but NOT after damage is on the stack (Unless it is not being dealt damage, and thus isn't going to the graveyard..). He must sacrifice it in the spells and abilities phase between declared blockers and damage.

Happy gaming :)
