I have 2 children and 3 Rottweilers.
If your dog is properly socialized and obedience trained there should be no reason why a Rottweiler and children can't be in the same house.
My children were NEVER left unsupervised with the dogs, however.
Socialization needs to begin EARLY and the obedience training is an ongoing thing.
Rottweilers are smart and if you let them know what is expected of them and what is not tolerated from them they will "get it"

I had a rottie (he passed away May 1 2004 of Cancer) I never had any doubts as to his kind hearted nature, his extreme intelligence and undying loyality. Many were the times when he was alone with my children as they grew up and I can honestly state I never once felt uncomfortable. A lot has to be said for the unconditional love that our family receved from our Nytro. I would not hesitate to recommend this fine breed to raise around your family.

my dad got me a rott when i was about 4 he was my bestfriend and if it hadn't been for buddy i wouldn't be here i was in kindergarten and a pittbull attacked me he ripped me a good one i screamed for someone to help me and my dog drug a 75lb doghouse and broke a log chain to get to me I'm 18 now and my dog died on my 17th birthday cause he was in the woods and a hunter who was illegally hunting shot him. To this day i miss him and i owe my life to him i wish he was still here hes my hero i now have 2 other rotts and i hope to make them as happy as my dog buddy made me. Dog's can be mean but it most of the time reflects the owner if a dog is beaten abandoned of course he's going to be mean all a dog needs is love and hey he might save your life one day mine did

I have a two year female rottie...she is wonderful with my neice. My neice is four and she dresses Mija (my rottie) she pretends she is her puppy and lays all over Mija. Mija adores the attention and has yet to even snap at my neice. I think they make great companions for anyone. It all depends on how you raise them. Let them be puppies and do not try to make them agressive. Have a owner/dog relationship and they will respect other human.s

WE HAVE A TWO YEAR OLD FEMALE ROTTIE NAMED JESSIE, SHE IS THE BEST. JESSIE IS GREAT WITH THE CHILDREN, WE HAVE THREE DAUGHTERS AGED 14, 9 AND 7 AND SHE ADORES THEM. SHE LOOKS AFTER US ALL, SHE IS NOT AT ALL AGGRESSIVE IN ANY WAY. IT IS RIGHT WHAT PEOPLE SAY ITS HOW YOU TREAT A DOG THAT MAKES THEM WHAT THEY ARE.

I am 21- I have always grown up with Rotts- However- we always got the dogs as puppies- and socialization was necessary! But I would never have another type of dog! My rott now, Alexandra, is the most loyal, loving dog I have ever had! She is super protective and has never once bitten anyone-or even snapped at anyone (except cats and skunks, etc.) I wouldn't suggest adopting an older rott- you never know how they were raised- its just not smart. But I would completely recommend getting rotts as puppies- they are great with kids and constant companions for life!!! (Don't forget to train them- I would suggest that with any dog though!!!)

I have a two and half year old rottie. She is the best companion for my 5 year old god-daughter. Snuggles(my rottie) lets her ride and jump all over her and all she does lick her face snuggle up to her. she loves all children even strangers. She was raised to love everyone whether it be dog, cat, child or adult. I will never own any other type of dog.

My hubby and I have had 3 rottweillers over the past 3 years, first we had a female called 'Tyona' who we got when she was 9 weeks old, she was such a fantastic dog, so effectionate and loving but my husband and I began working shifts and long hours and had no one to look after Tyona. We didn' think it was fair leaving her alone all the time, so after 4 months of toiling weather to let her go we gave her to my aunt, who only lives round the corner, so we see her all the time. I was so heart broken after that and realised we made a mistake, she was like one of the family and wanted another dog, I cut my shifts and got 2 sister Rottweillers Sasha and Keely again at 9 weeks old, they are absolutely fantastic dogs, we have had them 1 year 4 months and we love them so much. I am 7 months pregnant and they have been great, no getting over excited when I give them some treats. I love them so much, and they make me feel so secure and loved, I adore them so much, and yes I agree that if a dog of any breed is shown love and effectionate it too will love you in return. I would recommend a rottweiller to anyone.

I have a 2 year old Female Rottie named Angel. I also have 5 children ages 2 to 16. Angel loves all of my children and is very protective of our house and "her children" I never worry about leaving my kids or baby with the dog unattended. There is only 1 time I do not allow my baby around angel and that is when she is eating. I dont think i will ever have any other kind of dog.

I have 2 rotty's now and one before (died of cancer) Any dog will bite if not raised properly. I adopted my last rotty from a shelter. I have 3 yrs of abuse to get out of her and regain her trust. I also live where there are alot of kids all the time. I have kids also. It is best to get one younger if you have kids (train kids too) but you can have a great one who is older. The kids in my area love my dogs and ask for play dates. It is all in how you treat them. If you don't know anything about the breed...please learn before you get one and teach your children how to behave with the dog (any breed) Alot of people think it's ok for their children to poke, pull, prod etc and never expect the dog to do anything. Also...be responsible....don't have a dog for breeding with small children. If you want one for a pet ...let them be that. They make WONDERFUL pets and FRIENDS

I had a female rott who became an american champion in less than a year and than at two she had a litter of 12 puppies. My two sons each got one of the puppies and they had children later on they were prefect with the children. They were taught to respect the dogs as well as love them amd they made great companions.Gretchen my rott was the most faithfull and loyal dog I have ever owned and her daughter Heida was the same. If you give them love they will give it back double. She herded the cattle for me too didn't ask her to either.Rotts are wonderfull and loyal with children. She was going on 14 when I had to have her put to sleep and that was the hardest thing I ever had to do.

I have bred rottweillers in the past and absolutely love the breed. They are loyal and one of the best breeds to have around children. I brought my daughter home from the hospital as a newborn and my rottweiller Emily would never let the baby out of her sight. When my daughter was 6 months old my dog Emily saved our lives from an intruder in the house. The man who broke in to my house had me by the throat on the ground when my rottweiller Emily attacked him and unselfishly saved my life. She passed away 2 years ago, from cancer and I now have a 6 week old rottweiller puppy with whom I have grown attached to already. They are loyal animals that deserve alot of love and they will be great dogs if treated with respect.

My uncle had a rottweiler. One time when we were having a Bar-B-Que. My cousin who was about 5 years at that time was eating a piece of steak. The dog had been fed but it wanted my cousin's steak . Since he was little he didn't give it to him. So the rottweiler bit him and he was hospitalized that day. I hate rottweilers.

I have a 7 week old rottie. I had no problem deciding to get a rottie. People at work thought I was crazy for getting one. Thinking that CZR (my dogs name) is going to be mean. I think it is on in how you raise them. Raise them properly and you won't have a problem with them. I don't like people who judge rottie's because of there breed. Teach them to be good and you will not have a problem. I have 1 other dog, german shepard/rottie mix and 2 cats and he is great with them all. I would recommend rottie's great dog.

we have owned two rotties both died of cancer. my youngest daughter was so in love with both of these dogs it just broke her heart. we acquired our rotties from the humane society. we were told they were both around 2 years of age. we were able to have harley our first for about 8 years and rocky 1.5 years. he developed cancer in june and had his right back leg remove and died 6 months later. the cancer spread to his lungs. he had a beautiful spirit. we decided to purchase an 8 week old rottie puppy. we thought we would try a different breed of dog, because of the illness of cancer with the rotties! but our heart could not. once you have own a rottie you fall in love with these dogs. they are really family dogs if they are treated with love and affection.

I just had to put my Rosie down last week. She was 9yrs old and recently diagnosed with cancer. I got her @ 6weeks of age. I lived next to a day care, and that was her favorite place to hang out. The children would come to my home to play with her.I agree,Rotties as any other dog must be socialized and trained as a young pup. I guarantee that if the animal is treated with love and respect, you will receive that back 10 fold.

MY DAUGHTER AND I ARE NOW THE PROUD OWNERS OF A ROTTY NAMED RUBY - SHE IS 17MONTHS OLD. RUBY ADORES EVERYONE YOUNG AND OLD HER ONLY FAULT IS THAT SHE EXPECTS EVERYONE SHE MEETS TO MAKE A FUSS OF HER. RUBY IS A LOYAL AND OBEDIENT PUP WITH A WICKED SENSE OF HUMOUR - SHE LOVES HUMAN COMPANY AND IS A LOYAL COMPANION. I NOW UNDERSTAND WHY ROTTY OWNERS ARE HOOKED ON THIS BREED OF DOG FOR THEY ARE SO IN TUNE WITH THEIR OWNERS AND EVERY ROTTY OWNER I HAVE MET SAYS THE SAME. I WORK WITH CHILDREN AND RUBY BRINGS A GREAT DEAL OF COMFORT TO THEM. I FEEL THAT ANY DOG IS ONLY AS GOOD AS ITS OWNER AND IF A DOG IS SHOWN LOVE AND RESPECT IT WILL BEHAVE IN THE SAME MANNER. WHILST I WOULD HAVE NOT HESITATION IN ALLOWING RUBY TO BE WITH CHILDREN GIVEN HER AGE I WOULD NOT LEAVE HER WITH THEM BECAUSE OF HER SIZE FOR SHE CAN OCCASSIONALY KNOCK PEOPLE OVER IF SHE GETS TOO EXCITED.

We have 2 Rotties,Jake and Chopper, that are absolutely incredible!Jake is extremely intelligent(we don't say anything infront of the Chopper though!)We have had these 2 brothers for 8 years and they have always been the same temperment...kind and gentle. Jake seems to have more ailments than Chopper but holds his own pretty well. He was hit by a car when he was a year old ..then later(age 3) had a cartiate ligament operation...but he is tough guy. We hope that they live good long lives and we will miss them terribly when its their time to go.....Rotties Rule!

I am 27 and my Rotti is Oden 2 years old. He is well socialized with dogs and people especially little children. I have youngsters in my family who adore him as he does with them. My dog is very well behaved with the youngsters although I always do watch. Rotti'sare a wonderful compainion for little kids growing up. Would you leave your child with a pack of dog's? Of course not. But most big dog's are wonderful campared to little one's. A lot of little dog's are scared of young kids. My boyfriend has a Red Fox Terrier Mix (Looks like a Dingo) and he does not do very well around children between mnths old to 8 or 10. So like I said my Rotti is a wonderful dog and I wish I had him growing up.

I WAS ALWAYS AFRAID OF ROTTWEILERS THEN ONE DAY MY SISTER-IN-LAW CAME TO MY HOUSE WITH THIS GORGEOUS PUPPY, I COULD'NT BELIEVE THAT IT WAS A ROTTWEILER. ANYWAY I SUGGESTED I BUY ONE FOR MY HUSBANDS B/DAY. I WAS VERY DUBIOUS AND WAS ADAMANT THAT THE SLIGHTEST HINT OF SNAPPING OR TEMPER WE WERE TO GET RID OF HER. GRADUALLY THE FEAR LEFT ME, SHE IS 2 NOW AND INSTEAD OF HER BEING MY HUSBANDS DOG I CONSIDER HER TO BE MINE. SHE IS SO LOVING AND PLAYFUL AND SO PROTECTIVE! SHE FOLLOWS ME EVERYWHERE I GO WHETHER THERE IS ANYONE ELSE IN THE HOUSE OR NOT. CANT EVEN GO TO THE BATHROOM ON MY OWN!!!! SHE TREATS MY DAUGHTER LIKE HER OWN AND WHEN I TELL MY DAUGHTER OFF FOR BEING NAUGHTY I GET A CHEEKY LITTLE GRUMBLE TO LET ME KNOW THAT SHE DOESN'T LIKE ME SHOUTING AT HER. I LOVE HER TO BITS AND SHE IS THE BEST DOG I HAVE EVER HAD AND MY FEAR FOR ROTTWEILERS HAS COMPLETELY GONE!!! GO GET ONE!!!!

I am a dog lover and have had many different breeds of dogs. I wouldnt be afraid to get any type of puppy from anywhere as long as it was a small puppy when I got it. If you raise a dog around your family and love and discipline it you wont have any problems. There isnt any type of dog going to tear through your door and grab your child out of its bed. If you leave a young child with a large dog without supervision and something happens it isnt anyones falt but your own. Always apply common sense and you will always be fine with any breed of dog.

I am the mother of 3 (10,5,and 7 months) and also the mother of 2 fantastic Rotts. I have a home daycare of 8 kids. Thora and Isis (my Rotts) are a dream to be around. They have never made a wrong move towards anyone. I have had them since they were 4 weeks old. My father is a Veterinarian and allows us to have Rotts without concern. I feel that he is the best person to know their limitations and demeanors. I trust him completely. He trusts my dogs completely. I would recommend few other breeds of dog to have with children. Enjoy the company of a wonderful friend...I do every day!

I have a 6 yr old Rott now who is the most amazing dog ive ever seen. She has been in 2 serious car accidents one with an outcome of my brother dieing but Ala living. She was abonned at the side out the road to die and when i found them they were pretty much dead. We slowly nursed them back to great health and she is loved by everyone who meets her. A baby can put there face in her food bowl at the same time as she is eating and she will just back off. She has never in her live shown any aggression towards anyone or thing however she is very affaird of cats and run in the other direction when she shes them. LOL. Because of the well nature of her we are looking to get another Rott that will become just like ala but not 100% percent. There is only one Ala.

well ,my children were small and we were given a baby rott (dude).he grew with the kids and is the best friend of all three boys.this is like he is one of them, and i would never doubt or not trust my "dude" with my boys in any way.it all depends on how you teach and discipline them and treat your pet like he is a part of the family, not a bodyguard.dogs are mostly the way they are because of your teachings and ways.

I have 5 daughters and they have grown up with rottweilers...They are wonderful loyal pets...Our female Sam died at 5 from cancer and we still have our male Buddy who is 10. I have never been afraid to leave my children with them, if anything I felt more comfortable and safe doing so. My grandchildren play with Buddy, dress him and lay all over him...He's great with them and all children that visit. It's all in how you bring them up...Lots of love and respect..and they definetly return those feeling. Rottweilers are the only breed I will get..They're great family dogs!!

I disagree with the person above about getting an older one. Our Cosmo is the most loving teddy bear ever. My brother has a male and female he recused who are the same way. They are no different than other dogs. It's all in the breeding and raising that makes a happy dog!

I have two rotties...boy and girl...and I have two boys..6 and 5...I got both of my rotties when they were 6/8 wks old...I strongly recommend to teach them discipline and guidelines. They are very smart dogs and they want to be loved alot. They are great with the boys and they understand that we take care of each other. I would recommend rotties without any hesitation to a very responsible and loving family! They are a wonderful addition!!!

Of course I let them, and I watch them, they are very good with children. I can't wait to have kids, and let them feel the love that I feel for my dogs.

I'm 22yrs old and we've got 4 rotties. In my opinion, rottweillers are practically the best dogs to have around children. They're nurturing and loving, intelligent animals. Socialisation is important from an early age and it all depends on how you treat the rottie and how you rear them that's the main issue. Rotties love to please and if kids are around them, they're guaranteed to be safe.

Good Dog around Children, But supervision & Education For Children & Owners About this particular Breed is Necessary . The money & Time spent You Dont want To Put Youre dog Down Because He Bites The Child For Protecting Itself I have Been around Kids & All Different Dogs & Noticed Especially In A Big Breed The Kids Like To Ride ( LOL) & Especially Do Not Listen To The dogs Warning Signs , Like when They Eat Pigs ears They want To be left alone - training that out of them is Believe it or not is tough , you may get a growl even if you are the alpha but is workable , like they will let you take any thing else but that pigs ear - lets cut it short educate children & You wont have problems .

I have owned Chase(our rotti)her whole life. She's been through a lot! She has traveled the U.S, had puppies, & went through a life threatening surgery. She is now 9yrs young and still has a ton of years left in her! When chasey met daddy it was hilarious. This happened in the first week that my husband and I had met. I told him to go to my house and wait for me as I was at work and to give my dog water. Now he knew she was a Rott but I guess when he got there he came in though the garage and Chase was downstairs. He came in and chase just starred at him sitting pretty and her expression on her face he told me was like " this is my Daddi". They both sat there starring at each other, my husband part fear and love and Chase all LOVE. It was love at first sight! It is now my husbands baby!

I have had Rotts for over 20 years and loved them as they have loved us!! I raised children with them and never once had a problem of any kind (other than the Rotts trying to sit on the boys' laps!!). I adopted a Rott from the pound over four years ago and I have to say that he is one of the best dogs. He was abused and about 2 years old when we adopted him and he shows his love and appreciation every single day!!

I just had to put Dakota Sioux, my rott to sleep, ( 9 years old) we think she had a stroke, Dakota was awesome with my 11 month old grand daughter, and with everyone, she was my husband's guardian, he had a stroke 10 years ago and Dakota and Andy, my doberman literally pulled Russ back to his feet more than once, when I can bear to think of getting another dog it WILL be a rott. although dobs are great too!

I have a Rotttie and he is great. He wouldn't hurt a fly so he definitely wouldn't hurt anyone. He sleeps most of the time and when he is awake he gets a lot of attention from my younger brother who is ten. He has never tried to hurt anyone but he can be a little aggressive when you are rolling around the floor with him. Although when you tell him to stop he does and he seems to respect you. So i think that Rotties are a great breed of dog to have even with children.

I have 2 rotties and also 2 young kids. I don't understand why rotties are singled out. Any dog can cause damage if miss treated. My dogs and kids are the best of friends and I have no Question that if my family needed the our dogs help they would be there to protect us NO MATTER WHAT! If you show any animal love and protection they will return this.

I have a 12 year old Rottweiller. In my life I have also had Shepherds, Dobermans, a Labrador, and a Golden Retreiver, (by the way who was the most aggresive dog I ever had). My Rott has grown up with and has always been around an entire neighborhood of children including my own family. I think she believes she belongs in any childrens playgroup including swimming in the pool with anyone that will that will have her. Having owned and been around dogs for over 40 years I find large working dogs, (Rotts, Shepherds, Labs, Akitas, etc.), to be the most affectionate and kid friendly animals around.

I have got 2 rottis 1 aged 4, 1 aged 2 and they both are the greatest dogs i have ever had. I have a 10 year old lad that has grew up with them both with no problems at all. The 4 year old even sleeps with him at night.
they are soft, loyal, beautiful dogs bought up the right way.
i wouldn't buy any other dog again and i adore them both to bits.
they even play with other dogs on the fields we got round here with no problem but we bought them up to get on with kids and children so i personally have no worries about either of them.

We live in Costa Rica and have a farm there. When we were gone someone dropped off three Rottweiller puppies. Well, what could we do but take them into our home. I'm sure as puppies they will be alot of work, but with love and good vets I'm sure they will be an excellent addition to our farm. Just hope no more surprises will be
dropped off. will let u know how it goes.

I have had many, many rotts. I love this breed and wouldn't want any other type. Roxy, Beau, Rags and Keyla were my babies. They loved kids and would never hurt any child. I beg to differ, if anyone tried to hurt me or my family in the presences of these dogs. I had 5 litters of 10 pups with Beau and Rags. Keyla was one of them. I never sold the first pup. I just loved having the around. I had a waiting list for my pups and everyone got the pups to raise with their children. I believe Rotts make better mates for children that Labs or Retreivers. My Babies are all gone now, and are so dealerly missed.

i have a rott got him as a young pup he thinks i am his momma and he loves my neices kids she babysits other peoples kids as well as having her own he will break the kids up if they get to rough housing alot and is ALWAYS the first on the scene if tears are present.one day her youngest got in trouble and my dog got between my neice and her son and barked repeatedly at the son till he backed out of the kitchen every so often he'd turn and bark at my neice as if to say it's ok i got it. once the boy was out of the room he licked him as if to say it's ok and then laid down at my neices feet problem solved in my opinion they have very big hearts and are very family oriented. to play and to be loved is their main goal. to raise one to be aggressive is a crime against the loving nature of these gentle giants

I just lost my Rottweiller who's name was Cheyenne to cancer July 25, 2005. She was the kindest, sweetest, most obedient dog I have ever owned. She was 6 when my grandson was born and he lived with us for his first 2 1/2 years. Cheyenne put up with anything that little boy could dish out and just licked his face. They are wonderful family dogs and I highly recommend them.

I am 27 yrs. old I was raised around rotties. I have had them since they were puppies and rescued adult rots as well. My best dog ever was a 6 month old rot I took in as a rescue, named Thunder. His previous owner had a choker collar on him from the time he was a pup to 6 months. Thunders flesh grew around the collar and had to be surgically removed. He was beaten and starved. The vet was going to put him down but a rottweiller breeder found him and begged him not to. She knew I loved rots and gave me a call. I cried when I first saw him. He was skin and bones and had a terrible scar all the way across his neck from the surgery. His spine litterally stuck out of his skin. He was timid around me and wanted nothing to do with my husband. Slowly he became my best friend and protector and my husbands "trouble buddy." We had him until he was 4 when he passed away from cancer. He was absolutely the best dog I have ever had in my life. He was very loving, almost an over grown lap dog. After all he got to be 211 lbs. (Even on a diet!) He had such a sense of humor, and treated us like we were royalty. I have never loved or trusted an animal so much in my life and I am so thankful for Thunder, he taught me so much, he was so grateful for the life he had even after he had been through so much. Now my little boy is in his Rotty Heaven, and I am a better person because of him. Thank you Thunder.
All my love,
Mommy

Without doubt Rottweilers are stable, loving dogs that can be trusted. Some people should never own such a fine dog, as this breed definitely reflects the mind set of its owner! Idiot owners produce dangerous dogs, whatever the breed,

I had a rott for 12 years. During that time he grew up with 2 children. He never growled or snapped or showed any kind of irritation with their constant attention. Instead, he thrived on it. Anyone who is familiar with the breed or who has researched the breed in depth understands that the rottie is a top recommendation for kids. Socialization is a must for any breed.

I had a Rottie for 3 years. I had to put Echo down 3 years ago due to Lymphoma. It had progressed too much for us to operate on. I didn't have children then, but I did have 3 children who lived next door to me. They rode on her back as though she was a horse...and she was 135 pounds! Once in the summer, my neighbor girl, Sarah, was walking into the street and didn't see a car coming right for her. Before I could have told Echo "no," she ran out and pushed Sarah out of the way. Echo was hit and broke 3 ribs. I have never been so impressed by one dog, or breed for that matter, ever! I now have a 13 month old, and as soon as he's two...we are going to pick out a Rottie! I recommend the breed to anyone. Like everyone says...it's nurture..not nature. :)

I have had a few different breed of dogs as pets. I have to say the one that I favor the most is my rotties. I have a 8 year old female and 8 month old male. Neither of my dogs have ever even snapped at anyone. My dogs have been around new born babies up to 90 year old people. They are very affectionate and loving. I have cancer and my 8 year old never leaves my side. She wouldn't even eat when I was going through chemo treatments. She stayed by my bed side through everything. I still have cancer and she has helped me get through the roughest times in my life. I would recommend rotties around anyone. Make sure to have a firm attitude with dealing with them however. They need to know their place and what is acceptable at an early age.

I am a new owner of a Roti(Loki). My wife and I love him. We watch our little 1 1/2 nephew every Saturday and Loki loves him. He actually watches out for him when we go to the park. Just this past weekend I took Loki to the dog park and a little boy showed up there he must of been only 2 or 3. Loki was the only dog that ran to him to say hi. He loves kids, and is very protective of them.

i had a rottweiller and lived on my own with him i then got a new girlfriend with a six year old daughter they moved in. i thought max would be jealous, he proved to be very gentle and protective over her. she would take him for walks he would not pull on the lead. if i took him people would say that dog is taking him for a walk! he would stand and watch her if another dog was passing as if protecting her. sadly a farmer poisioned him. it wasnt meant for him but he ate it.

I have had two rotties. My first rottweiler, Killian, my son brought home from college. He had been severly beaten and used in dog fights. It took a ton of love to get Killian to trust people again. I can't explain how appreciative Killian was to feel safe and loved. He was a great dog and we loved him dearly. He died of kidney disease when he was 8 years old. We lost a member of our family. My current rottweiler, Tobie (19 months old) was born on the day Killian died. His sister was the first born at 8:30 a.m, Killian died at 8:22 a.m. My husband was leary of getting another rottweiller, because a family with four children moved in next store to us, and he was worried that the parents would be fearful. We got Tobie in May, and from the moment he arrived, the kids next door have been his best friends. Tobie spent his first winter sled riding with the kids next door. We have a pool and Tobie loves to swim. The kids come over and go swimming with Tobie. I have absoulty no apprehension tobie alone with them. If you give Rottweillers the love, affection and socialization they crave, you will have a loving and affectionate rottie that would give his life to defend you and your family. My only regret is that I didn't get Killian earlier in his life. I recently had a contractor do some work on my house and I told him I had a large rottweiller, but he was very friendly. His response was, "I have been going to people's homes for years and the one thing that I have learned is that a person dog is a direct reflection of who they are. Good people, who love their family and have good morals, have good loving dogs". Nothing more needs to be said.

I raise rotties and love it. I was mauled by my own cocker spaniel when I was little. Our Rotties are sweet, gentle and protective with my granddaughter since she was born. She rides them and bosses them around. They love the attention.Raise a dog like family and it will act like family. Only one piece of advice: Only get registered, papered rotties, with good dispositions, not "back yard bred". Please.

i have to say it's wonderful reading about all of these great rotts. i too got my sweetheart at 6 weeks her name was ruby . i had to put her down this last summer because of bone cancer. my god i have never hurt so bad in all my life as then , as i held her the vet gave her the shot . i cried for days and weeks and still think of her everyday. she was 12 years old and was always treated as a family member. she just loved everyone we never left her alone with the kids because we don't believe in asking for trouble. but she was our soul mate and we will miss her love forever. the old saying is true for all beings!!!!!! treat them as you would want them to treat you and you will have their friendship forever!!

I am 18 years old and I to loved rottweilers, although when i was seventeen i babysat one of my friends rots and it bit me. I am now completely terrified of rottweilers because that dog was 180 pds. and could have easily killed me with no struggle. I would have to recomend not having them around small kids because rottweilers can set off over the littlest things even if you are there best friend. I was too going to get a rott but after i got bit my mom bought me a border collie instead which i love to death the best decision my mom and i ever made.
