I just bought a 1988 Plymouth Voyager 6 cyl Van that has a water leak.  The guy I bought it from said that it was just bad hoses, and since he didn't have a job, he couldn't afford to fix it that is why he was selling it.  When I got it home, I filled the radiator with water to find the leak(s)and was shocked at what I saw.  The water immediately started running out the bottom of a pulley on the lower left side of the motor no where near the radiator hoses.  I got under the van as far as I could without jacking it up, and it appears that the water is coming from the edge of the oil pan directly behind the double pulley.  What is the problem, and how do I fix it.  I have never owned a Chrysler before, so I am not sure what it is.  I need any suggestions you may have.  Thanks,

Most likely, that pulley is the pulley that drives the water pump. It sounds like the pump bearings are shot, which allows the coolant to leak out. Fixing the issue involves removing the water pump, and putting a new one in. It's a pretty common procedure, for a mechanic. How complicated it is depends on the architecture of the engine on your van. I just removed & replaced the water pump on my small car, and it took me a few days (it's very small & cramped under the hood of that car, so the going was slow).

Sounds like a leaking water pump.  Not terribly expensive to replace.  Although, depending on what all is in the engine compartment, you may have to remove the radiator fan to get it out, but it isn't terribly hard to do.

Hi I also own a voyager,  your problem is most likly your water pump.. Which is located just below all those belts and above the double pulley.. It is a fairly complex job requiring removal of the left motor mount, and the timing belt as well... It can still be done a home mechanic....  If you are doing it yourself, get a book that goes through the process step by step...  Good Luck

Hi  I just finished fixing the same problem, I think it is your water pump, which is behind the motor support plate ( the belt side) it is driven by the timing belt and it is quite a job. about 8 to 10 hr job ( for a novice). There is a O ring on the back of the water pump, get a Hayes 30010 manual from canadian tire or the library. Note! Makesure your have the number 1 piston on T.D.C. and get the two cams leigned up with the dots exactly as shown I had to do the job twice because I was a little off. Your motor will not run if not.

Their is a return hose that drops down behind the AC unit near the oil pan. The hose probably needs to be replaced, and if a mechanic does it, your looking at about $250.00
