I have a '92 Fireglo 4003. Under the neck pickup is a large hole, the size of a humbucker. It is shielded with what looks like standard aluminium paper.

On Jon Casselman's4001 is a much smaller cavity for the neck pickup. Someone I know works at a Dutch luthier and he has seen more 4003's with the same large cavity as mine. Is the large cavity original, when did they switch to it, and why?
